ive got an isp provided web space.
If i upload an image (eg. mypic001) using an ftp program, i can view it, by typing (example!) htp/aolwebspace/fredblogs/mypic001
in the address bar, and it appears.
If i put several images, into a folder (creating a new folder in desktop, dragging image files in) and call it "some pics".....the page comes up "cant be found", when i type the address, and the folder name.
why is this? is there something about folders?
Ive taken a series of (5million pixel) images, for a relation, and want to give a link, so they can download from my webspace, rather than send email, as im guessing the folder of 15 photo's would be large/slow for an email?.
How do i post a folder of photo's, to be available for download, so they can press "save" from a download prompt? to get the whole lot?

Thanx for the answers so far. I'm sort of after, shared online storage, and retrieval, with no need to view pics like a web page.I just send friends a link, who dont mind downloading an "unknown" file, as they know what it is, and its from me.
My ftp says the folders uploaded, but even clicking on it within the ftp software recall, it opens up the individual pics, in a list to bring back down!

Maybe you should consider using a Gallery page such as Coppermine or Gallery2. This way, you can upload the files in bulk, and organise them into folders/albums.

To be able to view the contents of a folder you would need to have an index.html file in that folder listing all the images. It's quite easy to build one - along the lines of the following:

My Pictures - Some Pics folder

Some Pics

Mypic001

Mypic002

Mypic003

Mypic004

...etc...

However, even with this you wouldn't be able to download the whole lot with a single click. Perhaps the best way to do this would be to put all the images in a zip file and make that available to download. You wouldn't be able to view them individually that way though - but you could still upload them separately as well and provide the index.html as above.
