It is hard to help when you seem to have no idea where you want the essay to go. Decided on a theme e.g. How does Clarke use suspense in this story? Or How does Arthur C Clarke use traditional sci-fi ideas but turn them around? or Is this a sad or happy story? In the second one you could look how he treats aliens, alien invasion etc. In the third one look at different parts of the book and say whether they are happy or sad, finishing with the ending.
