Well in UK we would use ca. with the stop after the a. However in US I think it is just c. (with the stop, or period, after the c) otherwise confusing it with ca = California. BUT If this is for homework and you want to look real smart, then explain to the teacher that circa is actually an abbreviation and can therefore not be shortened.

It's ca. Make the "ca" lowercase. Otherwise, it looks like you're abbreviating California.
