Your question is equivalent to asking "What is the difference between a Porsche and a Car?"
All PhDs are doctorates. Not all doctorates are PhDs.
Several professional schools offer doctorates that are not PhDs. These include Medicine (MD), Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Dental Science (DDS or DMD), Law (JD), Education (EdD or DEd), Divinity (DD) and business (DBA).
The PhD is an academic degree rather than a professional degree. It is considered the highest degree possible.

Msc is masters in science (i assume). PhD and Doctorate are the same thing. Post Doctorate or Post Doc is not a degree, but what a PhD goes through before they become a professor. A post doc is where a PhD goes to work with a professor doing research and publishing papers etc before they find a real job. It's like getting job experience. Not another degree.

My grandfather got a Doctorate in Geology and 2 honorary Doctorates. He explained as thus. His Doctorate was based on his lifes work-hereto the rcognition of the 80 or so scientific papers that he has had published. A PhD is based on a single thesis. Therefore, in general, a real doctorate is likely a higher degree as it recognises true mastery of an entire profession.

The main difference between a doctorate and a Ph.D. are their respective meanings. A doctorate is an umbrella term for a degree studies or rank. On the other hand, a Ph.D. is a specific degree that falls under the doctorate category.

RE:
what is the difference between phd and doctorate?
i'm really confused , in my language both means the same meaning : the final degree after the masters ; means after BA or MA you can make masters , after the masters it is the same term in my language : doctorate . but in anything american i hear americans use the term : phd , but still there...

A PhD and a Doctorate are the same thing. The idea that one is a professional degree and the other isn't is wrong. I've know PhDs in Electronics, Chemistry, and Physics. If those aren't professional degrees what are they?
On the other hand it is possible that a PhD has to cut New ground in their field. But then you can get a degree in Psychology which isn't, literally speaking, a science. And that my be the difference. One is a Science degree and the other isn't. No that doesn't work either. Electronics IS a science.
I don't know! I'm so confused!
