I bought a domain and web space that had a one-year contract with it but I don't want either anymore. I've emailed them several times to try and cancel but they won't respond. They charge my card every month. Can I tell my provider not to authorize their charges anymore, or do I have to keep paying until the year expires?

If you signed a contract then you have to pay, but take a look at your contract I almost bet it has an out. If you are talking about a lot of money then see a lawyer, personally I would ask credit card company to stop them from charging your account, that you can do. Tell the company in a letter that they have not responded to your emails so you canceled. Also first check out this site and you will find out if this is a scam, see link below, I bet it is and they will show you how to get back your money or at least stop them in there tracks. This is a good site, put it in your Favorites.

If you have tried to contact the business and cannot raise anyone, then you have to challenge the charge on your bill.

This is usually done by paying all of the bill except the amount you are contesting. Often there is a different address to send your challenges to.

Photo copy the bill, highlight the charge, send that and a letter complaining that you have tried repeatedly to contact the business to stop the unauthorized charges, but cannot contact anyone.

If you have had charges for several months, you can contest all those charges as well. If the credit card company are unable to contact that company, you will succeed, and get a credit for those unauthorized charges.

However, if the company provides evidence that you agreed to pay for a term of say two years, and that time is not up, you will loose.

I had something similar happen to me. It was kind of a club, but I didn't want successive DVDs. I couldn't contact anyone because their phone number was false. I was able to get credit for 6 month's of charges.

Good Luck.

Go to your web hosting account. Check your account for payment options. Some hosts have an option to automatically renew. You have to uncheck it or they will charge your card.

Since you contacted your web host to cancel and they have not complied contact your Credit Card Company explain the situation and have them refuse any transactions form the web host.

A lot of web host are your average joe's who sell off web space for other server companys. Like a middle man. You have to watch who you deal with. Most are only in it for the money and don't care about your needs.

Best of luck!

Call and stop the payment. The company will only wake-up when the money stop. Instead of stopping the payment, report the credit card loss and ask for a replacement.

The company would have to contact you to get any additional payment.

A stern (but polite) letter to People PCs legal department might be in order. Tell them that further billing will be considered fraud and/or harrassment. Also tell them that they will have thirty days to comply before you seek a legal remedy. If you have some kind of prepaid legal service or if you know a lawyer, you should talk to them first.
