Actually, its three years if I remember correctly.
It would depend. Do I know this person? Does he already have a good job? I've met some great guys who were engineers, accountants, programmers, etc. who were on H1-B visas (those are employer-sponsored visas). An H1-B only lasts for a certain number of years and then they get sent home.
Can you imagine being at a job you love, your company wants to keep you, but you have to leave? When your company can't get you an extension, that's what happens. Happened to an old friend of the family, despite his MBA, his fluency in SIX languages and the pleading of his company to let him stay. Nope!
I have to say, I'm sympathetic.

No i wouldn't do this. Did you know that they just busted a huge ring of people who were doing exactly this type of thing?
It was in Utah, and all those people were arrested and prosecuted and all are going to prison.
Immigration is specifically investigating all marriages like this. They have several teams working on this one specific issue, it's not worth the risk.

I wouldn't, I think he should have to earn his way in through the normal route. That is the fair way. I mean ya I could definately use a spare 20 000 bucks but I would feel as if I was for sale, and marriage is a very sacred thing to me.

You'd better check the fine print: I don't know about the US, but in Canada, when you marry - even in that kind of thing, and even if you never see the person again, you are responsible for them for the long haul: if the person ends up on welfare, the bill will come to you.

No - probably a scam. They will steal your identity, rob you of your accounts and ruin your credit. Earn your own $20,000 in the legit way.
