probably because you have limited skills, such as a thatcher or a wheelwright, suggest you retrain to be able to do something that employers actually want

not really, just be confident. It also depends on the type of skills you have. There's alot of competition out there so make sure you give it your best each and every time. It's harder to be accepted in high paying jobs than it is for minimum wage ones.

Read up on interview books and job search books. Improve yourself by attending a community college about job relations. Go to the library or do some research on the internet. Be neat and don't be late for interviews. Have the best manners and always treat them with respect and appreciation for considering you for the job. Bulk up your resume.

I went through the same thing, but I finally found a career with a great company. I work out of my home around my pretty busy schedule. The company offers 401k, full training and support and benefits for my whole household. I enjoy what I do because it involves helping others.
