Where do you begin if you want to become a travel writer and you don't have any writing experience or industry connections? Any suggestions? Is it best to take classes in writing or is this something that can be learned on your own? How competitive is the travel writing market?

travel writing market is very competitive like all other write markets.
a good way is to travel and get connected with the people u see, meet and talk to. see things from their point of view and enquire a lot about the place u r travelling to. lay stress on their customs, traditions and view points. soon u will be a good travel writer.

Travel. While you are traveling, write about your experiences, every day. Send it off to a publisher. The field is not very competitive so you won't get paid much.
