I love the beach in Corcovado National Park. It is extremely secluded and pristine. The surrounding forest is packed with wildlife and you can monkey watch from a platform high in the trees.

I've traveled many times to Costa Rica and my favorite time was when I went to matapalo beach and stayed in encanta la vida lodge (www.encantalavida.com) but I think the only way to get there is on a small plane (www.natureair.com) from san jose or drive all the way to golfito (around 7 hours from san jose i think)and from there you might need to take a boat. so it might not be worth to waste all that time on the road if you are going for so little time. jaco area is ok but not all that, I prefer tamarindo in guanacaste and its surroundings .A good place to stay near tamarindo is hacienda pinilla (www.haciendapinilla.com) or if you are in a tight budget, a good one could be http://www.lasavellanasvillas.com/ ....avellanas beach is a great spot! oh and, you will need a 4x4!! BE CAREFUL ON THE ROAD!!! I havent been to the caribbean side of costa rica yet since im from puerto rico, not interested in seeing more of the caribbean.

I like Flamingo and Conchal. The best sand and water is probably the Caribbean side, but that is much less developed. Many Costa Ricans don't go there. I have not been to the Caribbean side, but imagine there must be a lot of native English speakers since there is a high majority of blacks adn that gives it a more Caribbean island feel than Latin America feel.

Well, there is Playa Grande, a beautiful beach up near Tamarindo (but NOT Tamarindo!).
Then there is Playa Grande, a beautiful beach just north of Montezuma (but NOT Montezuma!).
And don't forget .... (wait for it!) .... Playa Grande, the most beautiful beach of all, way down south on the Caribbean Coast, between Punta Uva and Manzanillo.
But puleeeze forget what that other guy said about Playa Zancudo! "Zancudo" means "mosquito" so of course you wouldn't want to go there, now would you? I hope not!
(I happen to love that incredibly gorgeous, pristine beach, especially since almost no one goes there - and I don't want too many folks to know about it, so sssshhhhhshshshsh!!!!)

on Pacific side Playa Hermosa, Guanacaste, Playa Conchal, Playa Grande, further south Playa Samara, Mal Pais and Montezuma.
Central Pacific best beaches are Dominical, Manuel Antonio.
On the Caribbean coast Playa Cocles, Punta Uva, Cahuitra and Manazanillo.

On the Atlantic, the beach inside the park at Cahuita. On the Pacific I think Conchal and the beach inside the park at Manuel Antonio.
