I put in for an open position at work not thinking I would really get, but I did ! It's a major leap forward with my company and alot more money but now I'm worried I won't do good enough and I'm very secure in my job now. What would you do ? Stay where your secure or risk failing at a higher position ?

That's an easy one to answer. Take the new job.

Rest assured that the company knows you and knows your capabilities. They're not going to expect that you will master the job in a day and they will support you through the learning process. I'm sure in your heart of hearts, you too know that you can do it. The person doing it before you is probably no rocket scientist and you don't have to be one either. I'll bet with your attitude and a little self confidence, you'll do just fine.

Please don't tell me that you work for NASA and the job has to do with Rocket Science.

Seriously, give yourself a chance. The mere fact that the company considered you for this position tells me that you have impressed them with your work in the past.....I'm sure you're Not going to stop now.
Good luck....Go for it!!

Hi, this is manu. I am in a similar position now.

I put in for an open position at work not thinking I would really get, because I only had all my seniors competing with me. Some working from more than five years!!.
I was the most junior to apply,
but I somehow did get it !
It's a major leap forward with my company to a lead role!! Having got here, How do i manage a process where most of my team members are my Seniors..!!
How do I manage clients and the management..!
Importantly this has come to me in only a year and two months of my experience in corporate in my company.!!
I know this was first asked 7 years ago and I see the answers are really motivating and helpful.
But I am really scared. May be because I am thinking what others in the team think, and what if I fail..!!!
What should i do ? Stay where your secure or risk failing at a higher position ?
I would love to know what The Hit Man(who posted similar question first) thinks about this now.
But I really would love any answers for this.. Please help..!!

I have never had this experience.

I have seen many people that have gone through this struggle. In every case these people worried what the co-workers would think of them. In every case the Boss only wanted the person they requested to take the position, to take the position because they have demonstrated that they can do the job.

If someone is offering you a promotion, accept and say "thank you". Do the best you can and insist that your friends and co-workers make you look good. If someone is doing something that is bad for the job: "It is your fault", don't let them.

Same thing happened to me.
TAKE THE JOB!! You will regret it forever if you don't.
Just start studying every aspect of the position and you will be surprised at how quickly you adapt.
Even though you don't....your employer sees your potential. The sky is the limit, don't tell yourself no!!
Practice makes perfect!
Good luck!

You need to believe in yourself and your abilities. You can't advance and better yourself without challenges, and this is a challenge that you can excel at. Take it in stride, secure yourself there as you secured yourself in your current position. I mean, you got the job because they believe you can do it, so if others trust you can, why shouldn't you trust yourself?

Congrats on the promotion.
