I'm trying to mail my son's report card to his grandmother, but the .tif file is nearly 12 megs, so it's too big. (I have an H.P. scanner and I created the file usind the hp director, if it helps or makes any difference.)

If you're using MS Windows, open the file using Paint:
Click Start Button
Click Run
Type 'mspaint'

Open the tif file.
Do a File, Save As
On the Save As window where it says "Save as type", change the file type to JPEG

Voila, you're done.

Go to the "Paint" program which is found under "Accessories" on your "Programs" menu.

Open your tif file in "Paint" and then resave it as a jepg.

Once it is saved as a jpeg you can right click on it and in the menu that appears choose "Send To" and in the next menu that displays choose "Mail Recepient". Another menu will dispaly and ask if you want to keep the original size or make it smaller.

Download and install IrfanView, a light but powerful photo editor program that usually open many kinds of image formats such as .tif. Open the tif image with Irfanview and save it as "Jpeg".

Go into the HP director and re-save the pictures as jpgs or open them up in a picture viewer and re-save them that way.
