Minimum wage?????????
i know minimum wage is set to go up $1 to $6.15 / hour. Does this mean everyones pay will go up or just the peopl who make less than 6.15 now? i think everyones should go up! am i thinking about this the wrong way? but min wage went up because cost of living went up - the cost of living for everyone correct? not just the people who make less than 6.15. should we all get a dollar an hour raise? am i being unreal or do you agree?

where i work we are paid quite a bit more that min wage so every year a committee gets together and analyzes, computes, etc, and decides whether we get a "cost of living raise". this year we get 75 cents hour. So I guess that it just depends on the company.

I get irritated when I think about the whole minimum wage dilemma in US society because everyone knows for a fact that no one can survive on that wage without some sort of assistance.

Perhaps min wage is great for teens that live at home but it doesn't cover all age groups, and all walks of life here in the US.

Has anyone ever thought about making minimum wage per age group and by location (rural, city size, east cost, mid-west, or west coast), and factor in the cost of living as it goes up per year?

Having the government adding a guideline process to the whole minimum wage issue would perhaps address the question of "Should we increase minimum wage up a dollar, and how often we should increase it?"

Makes you wonder how smart people really are that are running this country huh?

They don't understand economics. They believe that simply passing a law increases the standard of living for the poor. When it does the opposite. When you increase the minimum wage all you should expect are a decrease in hours and increase in price and people will lose real income. If the minimum wage was repealed- it would be logical to expect at least starting pay would drop however this would lead to lower prices and unemployment.

We live in a free market, or what started as a free market, and keeps being played with by our government. If the government regulates what you make, the next thing they will regulate is what you do for a living, then where you live, and so on. That is socialism or communism. That is what our country is headed for. When the minumum wage increases, so will all things associated with it. Fast food, groceries, etc. All the teenagers will get a raise, and for the rest of us, things will just become more expensive, while our wages remain the same. Your employer will also suffer these increases in cost, making it even harder to give you a raise.

if min wage in your state is 6.15 and goes up to 7.15 then everyone who made less then 7.15 goes up to 7.15 no one else is forced to make more. Some employers will rescale their pay. some won't. Some people making 7.00 will now only get a .15 raise. The government can't tell the business that they have to give everyone a raise.

It means that people earning less than 6.15 an hour will get a minimum of 6.15 per hour.

You have a very reasonable and interesting point, and I'm sure that anyone would want a $1.00 per hour raise. However, the government's economy is being run poorly. Also, the government is pretty greedy. Therefore, they can only 'afford' to give the people who need the money the most a raise.

Wait a while,, everyone's wage will go up, it always has with a minimum pay increase. At the same time the price of everything goes up. Then of course the minimum wage isn't enough, so it goes up again and the circle starts all over again. It always has and always will.

Raising the minumum wage has been proven to cause a rise in unemployment AND the cost of living for everyone. Employers don't have a limitless pot of money... if labor costs go up, they either cut costs or raise prices. Producers who can raise prices pass along costs to consumers, fueling inflation... those who can't raise prices lay off workers, or cut back on hiring. Young workers, and disabled workers, are the hardest hit.

This means that the minimum amount of money an individual can make an hour increases. It does not affect anyone besides those that make minimum wage.
