it stresses any animals but more so the guinea pigs.as long as you do it kinda fast and try not to have them lying on the backs'as they really hate to do anything ;that way...i have a dog ;and doing his nails is like doing a slimy snake;as he won;t sit still at all.now the vet does it for me, good-luck and you;ll find the way ;that works for you,

Hi, There will be someone at the RSPCA who could trim your guinea pig's claws, I'm sure. I find it very strange though, the RSPCA asking you to bring your pet guinea pig in to introduce it to a new friend, The introduction should be made in your cage at home. There is little point in introducing stange animals in strange places, as they'll be both scared and confused. You say your guinea pig is male?, Boar's ( males) are very territorial, and even if they don't fight in the rescue centre, they will certainly will once you put them in the same cage at home.

It will stress out any animal to be held down and guinea pigs are pretty high-strung anyway. That said, as long as you don't cut past the quick (it shouldn't ever bleed), your pet will be just fine. If you are in doubt of how short to cut, consult your local vet or pet shop-- they should be able to show you how to spot the quick so that you don't go past that point. Remember that regular trimmings are better than sporadic ones-- your pet will get more used to the routine and the quick doesn't have a chance to grow as long.

it does give them a bit of stress, but if you make it quick and painless, with lots of love, affection, and treats afterwards they dont mind. I raised Guinea Pigs for 15 years. I tell people the best way is to wrap him up in a nice fluffy towel, cover his eyes and head, Get one foot at a time out of the towel and expose it. The towel keeps him from seeing the proceedure, makes him feel safe, and muffles the sharp sound of the nail clippers. He doesnt know its happening till you got the claw and you are in the process of clipping it. Just remember if you get a toe in there it hurts and bleeds alot. The more you nick a toe the more he is going to hate it. So take your time and be really careful. Remember to give him lots of love and hugs and treats afterwards.

yup... my pigs dun like it when i do it to them. i also dun really like cuttin their claws but u have to. for me, i ask my mum to help out. i will hold my piggie n try to comfort him/her, while my mum cuts its claws. this way it is safer n reduces the chance of u accidently cuttin ur pig's toe. trust me, it hurts to hear ur pig scream becoz u accidently cut his toe... :-(
