Whenever they want it really..my son's pediatrician said sooner or later your child will want to try what you are eating. Start with scrabbled eggs, cooked noodles, mashed potatoes, soft cubed up fruit (once they have some teeth that is) and go from there.

My baby is 9 1/2 months and is on almost all table food. I bought a food grinder, and when she was about 8 months I would just grind what every were eating. Now she is mostly on soft or fork-mashed foods. every once in a while, I give her stage 3 baby food, but she does not really like it too much. I buy the Gerber Graduates and mash them up with a fork. She gets bite sized soft foods too, like noodles, veggies, etc. My doc is pleased with this, and said she is doing well.

I still occasionally buy my toddlers (2 1/2 years old) the gerber toddler meals...the ones that come with a full meal, like spaghetti and carrots...that sort of thing, and i occasionally still buy them gerber toddler snacks and stuff of that sort, although they mostly eat whatever the rest of the family eats. I didn't start giving them things we ate until about 18 months. Until then it was all gerber stuff, like the jarred meat sticks, snacks, juice ect. I just felt the longer they were on it the better. Now they will eat pretty much anything though, they like it all. I would ask a pediatrician what foods to start with, and if its to soon, see what they recommend, but your own judgement should be a good guide as well. Good luck!

It depends much on the baby's preferences and whether or not she likes a variety of food. At nine months, mine are still on baby food & normal food introduced slowly. I would stop baby food entirely at 2 if the baby still continued with it. But it would be combination throughout from around 9 mths.

Before one, soft foods like soups and yogurts are fine. I believe that milk products outside of yogurt are supposed to wait until after one, yogurt has less allergic and digestive complications then other dairy products. If your baby can handle more solid textures then you can probably start weaning him off of baby foods gradually. You can start giving him table foods like mashed potatoes that everyone is eating over jarred sweet potatoes. I think it depends on what you are eating. If you are eating soup for lunch then maybe give him some. You can start planning out meals that you can both eat.

I pretty much stopped at about the age yours is now. I just minced up whatever we were eating. If I thought it might be too rich though I would just make up some mashed vegies. Start trying some soft finger foods, like cooked carrot sticks. They get to a stage where they think it's great to be able to actually stick something in their mouths and be able to eat it. I just discovered (and mine is 18mths) that I can get a much larger range of food into him by giving him whole pieces of fruit and veg - he doesn't like it cut up anymore and you should see him when I can give him a bone to chew on!

I waited until my kids showed more interest in table food. Once you are at stage 3 it is almost like table food anyway. Make sure they have a good gag reflex and don't choke. It really depends on your baby but if they prefer baby food and doesn't seem interested in table food I would hold off.
Another big clue is if they have alot of teeth for chewing. Check with your pediatrician to be sure.

I pretty much started "table" foods when I first introduced solids. I didn't like the crap that storebought baby foods contained. I basically made my own from that which I ate, just put it into the food processor. She at the same types of meat, veggies, fruits that I was eating.

I never fed my son tinned or pre packaged baby food - I used to stew apples/pears and make mashed carrot/sweet potatoe and potato, then freeze it in ice cube trays - when I needed to make a dinner up I would take out several ice cubes of varing sweet or savoury foods and warm them through - I personally feel that this is better than buying baby food - by now your baby could start having finger foods of bread/cucumber/yogurts etc
