Yes, if you listen to it. The human brain has an important limitation. Conscious awareness can only focus on one thing at a time. So if you focus on the music, your emotions, the past, the future, anything except what is happening in the game, you'll miss something, you'll be distracted. Much of what they call "being in the zone" is focusing your attention 100% on what's happening around you.

I suppose it depends on the task, the music, and the person. For something that is rhythmic in nature (like aeorbics or cardio activities), it has been shown to be helpful. The beat can drive you along, push you forward. If the task would be driving your football team to victory as it's quarterback, I'd suggest no distractions.

it depends on the task. if you're running, then you can listen to music while exercising, and not be as bored.

but soccer or football, you kind of need as much focus on the game as possible.

I think it depends on how absorbed you get by the music. If its elevator music I don't think so but if it's your new favorite song you tend to work out harder in attempt to satisfy your need to dance.

yes. I'm a dj. I don't think you can run faster by listening classical music then techno music.

Try running with music, and check your time, then running without, and then check your time. You'd be surprised how big the mental aspect of it is.
