I have a reusable coffee filter and rinse it out after use in the sink. Is it ok just to dump the old coffee grounds into the garbage disposal?

yes, you can but coffe grinds do wonder for your ganden so dump them in a flower bed and watch what happens....

A common myth is that coffee grounds clean out the waste system, but there's no basis for that. My mother in law was saving up a couple pounds and using it all at time to really clean it. We got a chance to work the snake. If you only put water down it, you'll have no clogged pipes. Putting the coffee through a grinder (a waste disposal) won't hurt anything.

Absolutely okay. The only things you dont want to put in a garbage disposal are bones and stringy foods (like celery) because it will get caught around the blades.

I have a reusable filter also but I still use the paper filter because I think it it keeps the little particles outta there. Then just dump it in trash... I know I'm weird....:)

I was told is perfectly fine, and as a matter of fact, when you turn on the disposal, it has a sand blasting effect on the surface inside and will scour off the nasties.
Try putting some orange or lemon peels down there and turn it on with hot water...makes it smell so nice!

Hell yeah,
I pour that stuff down my drain w/out a disposal. not to mention it all goes to the same sewage pipe under home as does you toilet, showers, and other sinks.
As a home builder, the only thing you should worry about putting down your disposal are scraps of pork, and steak... thing that may not "dispose" of well. And watch out for how much toilet paper you flush per use.

As long as it isn't broken, there's no harm. Coffee grounds are soft, so it wouldn't do anything to break your garbage disposal.

I don't know how true this is, but I have heard that it's actually advantageous to do so. It helps to clean out the old pipes, or something like that. Also, I think the acid helps to eliminate waste in the septic tank. Good question!

ofcourse, that is what the garbage disposal is for. i've put chicken bones, leftover food, and sometimes even glass down there, no harm done.
