They prepare your body for baby. They contain folic acid and other vitamins and minerals that help babies brain development and other vital areas. They also keep you healthier so it can be easier to concieve. But as for do they help you get pregnant the answer is no. Taking prenatals helps you because when you try you do not always get the right nutrition you and baby needs. I hope this helps. Any doctor will tell you to take them when you are trying and this is why. I took them all through trying to concieve. I am 11 weeks and 6 days pregnant now and still of course take prenatals. But this may help answer your question as to why doctors recommend you taking them when you try to concieve.
Here is a site that might help explain better than I can. http://www.tryingtoconceive.com/natural.htm

Ive never heard of anyone getting pregnant because they took prenatal vitamins. They are only for after you get pregnant, to help you stay healthy and keep your system boosted, so you dont get drained from what the baby is taking.
