Great trade for both teams. The Braves have a desperate need for bullpen help and the Pirates needed a bat to protect Bay so each was willing to give up a very talented player. Gonzalez is an excellent pickup for Atlanta (above average stuff and pitching smarts), plus they feel that Thorman is ready to step in so they did well to pull off this trade.

Oh yes ...very much so. There aren't going to be 29 blown saves in Atlanta THIS year! And, with Gonzo, Soriano and Wickman? A lot of Brave games just got shortened to six innings - and that can help the starters get by. If I were the Mets and Phillies? I'd be concerned.

I don't really like the trade for either team. I believe that the Braves could have used Wickman for one last year and use Soriano as the setup man. If Soriano could stay healthy, he should have become the closer later this year or in 2008. If he couldnt stay healthy, then they should have looked for other options. Giving up LaRoache up for a position that is already filled is kinda dumb. Mike Gozalez is a good closer, however and he should do fine.

In my opinion, he is a quality reliever with a very strong arm and the proven ability to close, something the Braves desperately need.

Most Definitely!!! I watched him pitch a lot last year for the Pirates and he's a real solid pitcher!!! He is one of the best relievers in the game and he will fit right in with Atlanta.

He isn't the most dominating closer but he'll probably fair better on a better team. He's a good pitcher for them.

I don't believe so. I mean what has he done for any other team?
