Some of the hostels, such as The Flying Pig, (http://www.flyingpig.nl/) have separate twin rooms which are cheaper than hotels.

And while you're there go and see http://www.easylaughs.nl

It depends upon whether you want a hotel or a hostel. The Rembrandtplein Hotel is nicely located near the Red Light District on Groenburgwal 27 for about $80 US. Most hotels give much cheaper rates when you book online at a site like expedia.com.

It also very much depends upon when you are going. Rates are more reasonable at this time of year.

Keep in mind that everything in Amsterdam is within walking distance or just a short tram ride from anything else.

It is my favorite city on the planet. Have a wonderful time.

http://www.hotels.nl/ Here you can find any hotel you would want. Hotel Arco Amsterdam and Hotel de Paris are the cheapest (39 euros for a night).

Enjoy your stay in Amsterdam, it's really great here!!!

Bulldog Hostel is tremendous! Or we stayed in a small B&B close to Rembrant sq., that is likewise a strong area. dodge the Damrak and hotel center Amsterdam - bit shady and the hotel become like a grimey mafia hideout!
