It depends on how much money you are willing to spend. There is World of Warcraft, Lineage II and Guild Wars. Both WoW and Lineage demand payment but Guild Wars doesn't. WoW is much more attractive now because of the new exansion pack. The Outlands are absolutely great. Lineage is also good with better graphics but with a completely different atmosphere. The bright colors make it easier for a young player. Guild Wars is the best in my opinion as there are better graphics and there aren't any fees. World of warcraft is the best no questions asked but as far as free ones go Hero online or non paying but still purchased guild wars

I would say WoW, but thats incredibly addicting and costs a lot and sucks up your social life.
So RuneScape would be best to try for the free version for a while. if you like it past that, then go Member, its only 5 bucks a month.
