Hello all! Who else out there uses or has though of using a Menstrual Cup?
I'm looking for real answers, not silly remarks.

A menstrual cup is an environmentally safe way to deal with your monthly cycle, most types are reusable and can last for years, more hygienic, convenient and cheaper than tampons with money back guarantees too!

There are several models, among them:
The Diva Cup (made of silicone) – http://www.divacup.com
The Keeper (make of rubber) – http://www.thekeeper.com
The Mooncup (made of silicone) – http://www.mooncup.co.uk
The Lunette (made of silicone) – http://www.lunette.fi
Instead (softcup - plastic) - http://www.softcup.com

I absolutely love mine, although it took me a couple of days to insert and remove it easily. I thought the concept was gross when I was younger, but I don't like pads much and tampons give me cramps.

My question is who has heard of it, who has thought about it, and who else uses one? What's your opinion?

You don't need to sterilise every time, no other menstrual option is sterilised, as long as it is sanitary it is perfectly clean, hygienic and does not cause infections – menstrual cups are safe, that's what makes them better than tampons!

They aren't much bigger than tampons, see here - http://www.geocities.com/angua_nemi/tamp_moon.html - and they are more comfortable than tampons. They create a seal in the vagina to prevent leaking, it collects all menstrual material.

They are folded and then put into the vagina, not much different to inserting tampons.

You can get softcups at Walmart, Divacup have a store locator on their site to see where they sell them near you.

I have used Insteads for many years. They do take a knack to getting them in properly but they work very well. I recommend them all the time including the non-disposable type menstrual cups to everyone I come in contact with that asks about them.

I have used one for 4 years and I still love it!

I'd have killed to have known about these when I was younger, I had constant infections from using tampons and pads but never had a single infection in the four years with a menstrual cup. They would have saved me a lot of embarrassment in school when I was younger too, right now because of heavy periods if it was not for my Mooncup I'd not be able to leave the house!

I've used softcups and my diaphragm as a menstrual cup as well when I've wanted to have sex on my period, a bit more of a mess and fuss, I defiantly choose bell-shaped cups over softcups any day. It's a real shame more people haven't heard of cups, instantly think of softcups rather than bell-shaped cups when people talk about menstrual cups, or instantly think the idea is gross.

If it wasn't for menstrual cups I wouldn't be where I am now, when I discovered menstrual cups I started to wonder what else I did not know, I ended up getting into menstrual activism, that also got me into environmentalism, and I started studying gynaecology with plans of going working within Planned Parenthood where I'm already training OBGYNs. So hey, menstrual cups were a real life changer for me.

I just love that I can pop my cup in when I'm getting ready in the morning, leave it in all day without any worries and then remove and wash when I'm in the shower at night, so much more convenient and less messy than tampons or pads. I like that I can put it in before my period is due so I can avoid the hassle of being caught without anything, I don't have to shop for tampons or worry about finding a bin for them when I'm out either.

I have used the Keeper for about 14 years now - I am on my second one. My first cup lasted about 10 years.

I can not imagine why any one would use pads or tampons. The idea of the bleached cotton sitting on the walls of my vagina or a pad up against my body soaked in blood and tissue disgusts me.

The cups are safer, more environmentally friendly, and much more economical.

I would never give up my Keeper.

OMG!!!! I saw the Mooncup today in Boots! I was considering it, but wasn't sure about it. I wanted to speak to someone who'd used one!!

I have to be honest, I read the side of the box and thought "bleeeurgh", but then I suppose it's only like removing a tampon.

The idea is great though - much more environmentally friendly than all that packaging in sanitary products, and then flushing them down the loo!!! I will check with my Gynaecologist at the hospital to make sure it's ok for me to use, and then I'll invest.

You should post this in the women's health section too. Hopefully more people will invest then!!

Thank you for posting this xxxxxx

What a great question :)

I have definitely heard of them... and I have been considering getting a Divacup for a couple months now, but I couldn't ever find any "real" people who had used one, or any of the other similar ones. Website testimonials only win me over so much, if you know what I mean. Your question has prompted enough "real person" answers for me... so I think that I'll be buying one soon to use during my next cycle! :) Thanks again for such a great question!

wow! I have never heard of this before. I use pads, but hate them, and I know 2 ppl who have gotten TSS from using tampons.

It does look big. How does it get inserted? Please e-mail me at prettyface2nv@yahoo.com and tell me more. I really want to know.

Do they sell these at walmart? How much are they? I'm 16, so I can't order off a website.

Thanks again!

An all natural latex rubber cup that is worn internally during your menstrual cycle, and can even be worn overnight. It can hold up to 1 full ounce of menstrual flow.

I LOVE MY DIVACUP!! :oD

I got my Divacup a few years ago it saved me so much trouble, it took me a while to figure out how to remove it when I did a dry run but it still beats the hell out of tampons! It makes me laugh seeing girls on this site saying how great tampons are as all I can think is 'hunny you don't know what your missing!'.

I have all my girl friends using them and all my boy friends recommending them to their girl friends too, I even got my mom to use them – shocking given how old fashioned she is, she was the one who got me using tampons.
