Neither because neither party is flexible enough to allow all my views. I believe in school choice, but know there aren't enough vouchers for everyone so you can't decimate the public schools because there will still be children in them.
I do not believe that any minister, rabbi or priests has to perform or allow gay weddings to be performed in their respective houses of worship, however I do believe that gays haves as much right to get married at the courthouse and be as miserable or as happy as their heterosexual counterparts.
I believe in smaller government, but not as small as it was in 1789, we had fewer people so obviously we needed fewer agency to administer fewer services. I would like people to stop every 10 years or so trying to abolish the Dept of ED and tell me why the Dept of Interior can’t be incorporated into other agencies.
I believe in a woman’s right to choose, but I would gladly agree with making abortion illegal if some learned pro-lifer would tell me who will be taking care of all the children that will be born when it takes 2-8 years to adopt one child (Madonna and Angelina notwithstanding).
I could go on, but my point is if you say you are a democrat or a republican on blue eyed social green, then what you are really saying is you don’t think about issues, you follow the opinions (often topical an short-sighted) of others. That is the best way to lose your independence, assuming your "party" allows you to have it in the first place.

I don't consider myself to be a Republican or a Democrat, but as a liberal/leftist/progressive, I identify most with the Democratic party. This does not mean I will always vote for Democratic candidates; who I vote for really depends on their qualifications and where they stand on the issues. My ideal candidate would have a combination of the Democratic/Libertarian platforms, because I believe in a more limited government than that which is currently in existence, and am apalled at how wasteful the Democrats are with our tax dollars.
I will probably vote for a Democrat in the 2008 presidential election, because this country needs someone who can turn things around, get us out of Iraq, and restore our civil liberties. But if the Democratic candidate is totally unacceptable, I'll probably vote for an Independent, Libertarian, or I'll simply abstain from voting.

Such a simple question, with such a complex response.
I'm a registered Republican, but refuse to be pigeonholed by the letter on my voter card. That little R doesn't predetermine who I vote for, or where I stand on an issue.
I do vote GOP most, but not all of the time. The first person I ever voted for was a Democrat, the late NY Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan. That's the only time I voted for a Dem for Senate. I've almost always voted GOP for Congress, except for the most recent election, when I voted for a Dem.
I've never voted for a Democrat for President or Governor, but I frequently vote Dem for state and local offices.
My politics are generally conservative, bordering on libertarian. I'm a strong fiscal conservative, and a social moderate. I support lower taxes, a strong military, and a business-friendly economic policy, I also support conservation, finding alternative energy sources and reducing dependence on foreign oil. I favor the death penalty. I'm opposed to banning abortion, except for partial-birth. I'm against a gay marriage ban. I think we need tougher enforcement of our immigration laws, and a better process for letting people in who want to come here legally.
There's more to a person's politics than which primary they sign up to vote in.

I'm independent who is voting for Kucinich or Edwards. I've never voted for Dem before but I voted Reagan back in 1984. And, I've regretted that vote ever since.
