America is not a democracy but it is a Representative Republic, which means we elect locally the Representatives to do our law making for us. It is up to the Representatives to do our biding for us in State and National government. If you don't agree you vote against the Representative once the elections roll around.

Both. It's officially a republic, which is why you can't do a popular vote on everything. Things would be way different if it was a true democracy. However, since there is some voting, we practice democracy and are democratic.

Both. America is a democracy because of its freedoms (right to vote, right to speak out, etc). America is a republic because there is no dominant country over it. This happened because of the American Revolutionary war. It used to be a colony of Great Britain. (Example: Great Britain is still dominant over countries like the British Virgin Islands, etc).
