It is clear to any person educated enough on the subject, that the US may very well be on their way to a WW3. Not certain, but the clues give you enough evidence to realize its probability. Iran, North Korea, Humas, Syria, Somalia, etc. are starting to build-up there axis of evil. Given the relations between the Brits, Americans, and NATO forces and Iran, N.Korea, Somalia, Syria, Humas, etc. hit a true boiling point..
do you think it would be wise to legalize marijuana?

Trillions of dollars come into the USA every year from Marijuana sales. Because its not legal, the government doesnt gain any of the profits from the sales. If the government legalized marijuana and put just a 5% tax on it.. they could make 500billion dollars a year for every trillion dollars that comes into the US every year.
**would congress gain control of the money? if not, it would give the pres. more freedom in the war to make decisions.

This would easily fund a war that will take MANY resources to win.

Could it also eliminate taxes? raise the tax to 10%, therefore raising the annual profit by the gov't to 100billion dollars a year per trillion dollars worth of marijuana coming into the US annually... the gov't would have enough to not only pay for the war, but also pay for its own expensise... removing the need for taxes...

As for the Cons?

Assuming we send most of our country's army overseas to fight WW3, would we need to have a draft to build up our national gaurd to help police? Could these people even be trusted if marijuana is legal? would they just light up w/ people they caught?

Would we hafta take our national gaurd off our borders to police, thus raising the number of immigrants. (drug dealers would flourish to america to sell marijuana)

First would we need to have the money to put up a secure wall along our mexican border?

After we win WW3, will we need to call war on mexico to stop the drug use?

If you look back to the past, China legalized opium in there country for similar reasons.. Opium started so much madness they had to go to war with Europe to stop drugs from coming overseas.

Would we need to go to war with Mexico after WW3 just to stop the drug trafficking?

Would Mexico, knowing this, instead of getting thrown into war after WW3, suddenly join the war while we are vulnerable?

Would we lose the support of other countries for this?

So many questions, what do you guys think about this proposition? Are the risks worth it? Is it even something to consider? Have anything else to add?

good point, John H..

I think collecting the money could be solved by further thinking into the plan and polishing it..
policing by the national gaurd could also help stop people from growing it and selling it without a business license.

Also, training low-income workers to work for the National Gaurd could raise incomes, help reduce poverty, and raise the unemployement rate

Well, I'm not so sure that the US would stand to profit more from legalizing it than what they're doing already. They seize a lot of property, including money, houses, cars, drugs because of this. Also, prisons are publicly traded on the stock market, and their values are based on the number of inmates housed, so the stockholders have something to lose from letting all those convicts out. Ever wonder why the US, with 5% of the worlds popoulation has 25% of the worlds prison population?
Also, do a bit of research, and you'll find that G Bush the first made it possible for the CIA to deal drugs without being held liable by the DEA (he signed a document stating that cia agents could not be prosecuted for drug charges, it was made public through the freedom of information act and you can find it online), and in fact was instrumental in securing the panama canal for the drug trade.
Another interesting fact about the US and the drug trade: if you deposit more than 9,999$ at once in your bank, the IRS will ask you where you got it. However, if you put that money in the stock market, no one will bat an eye. There is a meeting every several years in the Grand Cayman islands where many of the biggest american companies get together and launder money for the Gov through their businesses. Why? And what money? Drug money, because its a 500 billion dollar a year industry that the US economy would die without. How do they launder it? NY stock exchange.
Do a bit of research, and you'll see that all this is verifiable.

Marijuana should just be legalized period.

Our government has lied about this drug, since it was targeted.

It has medicinal uses, or no synthetic medicines would have been developed, much less approved by the FDA.

You are correct, making something illegal means that the government loses all control over the activity.

You are incorrect, however, in your assumption that funds will ever be a factor in winning the war on terror.

The only way to win the war on terror is to end the war on terror.

Killing a million civilians to destroy a few thousand terrorists, will always generate more terrorists than were killed.

Gee Bill did you give that answer any intelligent thought or did you give the military line of reasoning. Look at cities all over the world that have casinos there is the underground jobs all kinds of things are bought and sold in these purchases. This underground money keeps many people employed or at least making money to support themselves. In every big and small town all over America a person can buy some marijuana. If taxed the government would reap many millions of dollars. People who want to use - do, people who dont want to use-dont. So tax it and truly fund the war on terror rather than waste our time and money on the war on drugs. Let those who have a predilection for drugs get help in the medical world, quit throwing them in jail(so there is room for all sorts of violent and nasty people who deserve to be there), and really hunker down and Make peace. But realislically no they wont do that-TAKING A STAND IN OPPOSITION OF STANDING IDEAS MIGHT MEAN LOSING THE ELECTION. The election is the only thing that counts-not our country, not our freedom - THE ELECTION is what really counts!! So we wont use these radical ideas even though they may work.

Yes. The war on drugs is a huge waste of time and effort. What is needed is a return to personal responsibility. If someone wants to shoot heroin, smoke crack or dope or whatever why should this be a crime? It is a personal choice. By the same token, if it applies, if the individual overdoses, then they should get at the end of the line at the emergency room, behind Jose and his kid with a head cold and wait their turn for service. If they cash in waiting for their turn there, oh well, shouldn't have been an addict I guess. They shouldn't have made that personal choice to self medicate themselves into an early grave. What would decriminalization do? 1.Stop a whole lot of the violence in the inner cities and around the country that is associated in trafficking and distribution. a. The price would drop to such a level that drug dealing would not have any profit to fight over per se. b. Dopers would simply grow weed and it would be essentially free. c. The government might even get in there and tax it. 2.Stop filling up the jails with people essentially engaged in commerce. 3.Stop trying to enforce laws against individual choice. 4.Let our law enforcement people chase down more heinous crimes and other problems like terror groups and the like. 5.Stop the international footsey our CIA and their minions play in South America and Asia in using drug trafficking and profits to fund little distractions. 6.We simply can not afford this socialistic “mommy” stuff anymore. Downfall 1.More drug related deaths. 2.More drug use because it is no longer “criminal”. 3.More stresses in substance abusing families. 4.Need for removing children from such familial environments. 5.Need for holding substance abusers totally accountable for their actions, even when “high”, because it was their choice to “get high” in the first place. Same as alcohol. 6.Need for expanded education. 7.Need for expanded “I really want to quit clinics.” Selling to children under the age of majority should be a mandatory 5 years in the big house.

I:"m not as good at composing reply s as some of you more educated guys are but my feeling is marijuana should be legalized and taxed.Yes, I know some people would grow their own, they do the same with vegetables but it hasn"t hurt the farmers whose crops feed the nation. And yes ,it dose have medicinal uses.If you have ever watch a loved one suffer thur the side effects of cemo you:d realize its use against nausea, nerves, etc.I believe by criminalizing marijuana the govt. has driven our young people to harder and more dangerous drugs.Meth, coke , those date rape drugs, etc. And no I do not use drugs, never have thank God.

With legalization, prices would drop dramatically. The tax revenue wouldn't be anywhere near the estimates. But how could the government lay a tax on something anyone can grow in their back yard? It would be kind of difficult to collect, don't you think?

Marijuana should be legal if there was never a war on terror. Our creator gave us free will and for a government to allow tobacco and alchohol but not marijuana. I dont support drug use but more problems are created through prohibition. It simply does not work!

You are comparing apples to oranges.

Marijuana should not be legalized because of a war nor does it have any impact on whether it should or shouldn't.

Edit for the guy who lacks intellect (eleablue):

By logic I believe you mean feelings. I don't use feelings I use reason.
