I have received offers from both universities. Both are close to my home. Which one is a better quality university (I'm going to study one of the fields in social sciences)? Do those universities have a Royal Charter from the Privy Council? Are the lecturers of those universities graduates of prestigious universities? Was any of those universities involved in any scandal? How do they treat students? Which one is the most respected amongst the academic community? Which one of those is most likely to raise people's eyebrows after I graduate (in a positive way, of course)?

Go on their websites and search under the faculty- you should find information about each lecturer including their published work.

Also try googling it- I know the Indpendent newspaper normally publishing the best uni's each year so include that in the search.

Either way, the degree is wicked- ive nearly finished mine at Soton and it's been brilliant (but LOADS of reading!)

At the end of the day the only real uni's that raise an eyebrow are oxbridge- there after i think most employers seen them as a 'much of a muchness'.... So go with what YOU feel like you'll prefer and go to their open days.

Finally, if memory serves me right, in my careers room at school, the UCAS books always had quite a bit of info (coming from a girls school, the main thing i remember was checking out the boy to girl ratios!!)

Good luck
