You would think after George Bush and all the lies and all the selling out of American principles and values that America would demand something new and different to change the course of their history but I dont know. White supremacy seems as American as apple pie. What do you think people?

I think you asked an excellent question! I think that most Americans are ready for a change, and would elect either a woman or black president, if the elections were held TODAY. While the current events are still fresh in the minds of us all. However the media and the public have very short attention spans and we have become a nation that's accustomed to forgetting the past.We have forgotten that those who reject the past are most likely doomed to repeating the same mistakes! white supremacy is also alive and well, and now has a better job and lives in a better neighborhood. Lest we turn a blind eye to morality and fall no longer prey to fast talking politicians with nothing but oil companies on their Christmas lists we will not change. If the nation we call home America is truly a melting pot and a haven for justice, then there won't be any reason why a woman or a minority shouldn't or couldn't hold the highest office in America! I know I'm ready for a REAL CHANGE!

I think there should be a black male president before there is a woman president of any race. I think it is in America's best interest to tear down racial barriers, then as one people, we could work on establishing appropriate gender roles, but as far as the white supremacy, I know what you're talking about, but I live in a multicultural area. The school I attend employs mostly black people and a few people from various other countries and about 3 white people. The student body is also mostly black. On several occasions I feel that I have been treated differently (negatively) than the other students, because I am white. After all the black race has fought for to be treated equal in this country are they going to do something new and change the course of history? Or are they going to follow the example of the white supremists?

No, and this is not because the American people haven't changed their mindset to allow a minority or female to lead the country, but because minority and female politicians in the U.S. would always carry with them to the office a bias similar to that of lobbyists for special interest groups, which would make it much harder for them to make decisions with the best interests of the WHOLE country in mind than it is for white males like Bill Clinton or the Bushes.

For proof of the average American's lack of prejudice towards minorities or females running for and even succeeding in being chosen as President, one need look no further than political t.v. shows.

For 3 out of its 6 seasons, the most popular show on t.v., 24, has had 2 black men as President, and obviously this has not hurt its ratings, and has improved them if anything.

On the last season of West Wing, arguably the most popular drama of all time (political or otherwise) a minority (Latino-American) was elected President, and it was still nominated for several awards the next year.

The question isn't whether or not the American people are ready for a minority or woman President - we have been ready for such a Presidency for decades - but whether or not minority or woman politicians are ready to lead the American people.

I think America is ready, but only with the right candidate.

If Colin Powell ran in the next election, he would be the favorite to win.

Unfortunately, both Clinton and Obama have some challenges to overcome; Obama is liberal, a first term Senator, and young, while Clinton is either loved or hated by Americans. She will have no chance in the south.

i think we are ready...i am not sure if other countries are...and that has always been the concern. many middle eastern countries for example. i think the main concern is that we don't want to show weakness....ok, we don't want to show the APPEARANCE of weakness to others...and for some countries, they see a woman in leadership as a sign of weakness. i completely disagree. (and a minority? i still don't know why we haven't had one...what's the big deal??) besides, the US is run by many, not just one person, regardless of what people want to say. i know i am ready, but the majority of americans are a bit concervative, and it may need another 4 to 8 years before it may happen.

No they are definitely not ready for a woman president. And they aren't really ready for a minority president either.
