What I do is when I pull out a new tampon and open it, I tug on the string before inserting it. If it breaks off I don't use it (frankly I've NEVER had a string break free from the tampon). You won't lose the string, it might be icky but if its not dangling just feel around down there and you should find it.

take one out of the wrapper (which you then won't be able to use but hey!) and have a look at it and give the string a tug. it's really securely attached so it's really unlikely it would come off the tampon. the way it's made means the string ends up in the right place not to get 'lost' inside you and it's easy to check with your fingers after you've inserted it that the strings in the right place

The best thing to do is before you insert it just give the sting a good tug to give you peace of mind that it is sturdy. It is HIGHLY unlikly for this to happen and even if it did all you would have to do is reach in and go get it. It's not going to go up inside you and get lost or anything. It's the same as if a condom comes off inside you. You just have to go get it. Yea it's kinda gross but hey we are women with periods and that gross anyway. But don't worry, it's not going to happen. They are designed very good to prevent things like that.

That is a normal fear. Just make sure that you have enough of the string on the outside. Worse case senerio? You would just have to go to the doctor and have it removed. Leaving it, could cause severe infections, and toxic shock syndrome.

Before you put the tampon in tug at the string a little bit. The string is sewn in securely. Look at how it is sewn in. You don't have to worry. If you do loose it you can get it out easily.
