You coud search the computer for .zip or .rar extensions, click on them and see if anything opens them. Zip compression is built into XP editions and does not need a compression program.
Look at the little icon for the compressed file. That is a good indicator of the program that is associated with the compressed file, then right click and view properties for the file.

Look in add or remove programs. Another quick way is to go to your desktop and click on an icon or go to a folder and click on an icon, then do a right click (or left click depending on of you are a righty or lefty on your mouse settings) and see if you have Winzip, Quickzip, Winrar installed. There are other compression programs but those seem to be the most popular.

Look in "Add /Remove Programs" like you normally would!
You'd also probably know if you're purchased WinZip as you'd have used your credit card.

Should also be in Start/Programs..... just download winzip if you don't have it.
