It's not that they are intentionally trying to be "mean" - they are uncomfortable with those who don't fit their idea of normal convention. Couples who have children can't fathom why anybody would not want to have what they have - their idea of a nucleus family. They can't wrap the idea that there are couples in this world who are happy with just having each other for whatever reason.
Most people think they need a little clone of themselves to leave for posterity and anyone not conforming to this idea must not value themselves. Not true - it just means that these couples are either insecure with themselves and feel they need to have someone to mold or they feel that they need to have a physical showing of their undying love for their partner. The reasons themselves don't really matter - the fact that people feel ill equipped to deal with those who they don't understand is what I believe the bottom line.
Rather than being angry with these people you may want to pity them because of their "close mindless" and their inability to deal with what they consider "out of the norm". They also tend to be a teeny bit jealous because childless couples can usually afford to do things that couples with children may not be able to do such as travelling and buying luxury items.
If people you know are truly "mean" to you then they aren't truly your friends - friends support their friends not bash them.

In this day and time it is a hard decision,And some people just want to live there life not have the worries that you would have with kids.The greatest gift you can give a parent is grand kids but with the divorce rate as high as it is,it's a lot to think about,children do get hurt and it stays with them for life.

Probably because they are jealous that you have more time for your self and more money to spend on yourself. Raising children is a VERYexpensive job. It's one that I always enjoyed when my children were at home.I am always looking for something to buy for them or their children.Some people just don't like spending their money on anyone but themselves.I had a son-in-law like that one time. I think that is a personal decision and none of anyone else's business. (some moms may get mad,because they won't have grandchildren ). Hope I didn't make them mad.

I wouldn't be mean to a person because they don't want to have kids, but most be people get upset because you could be bringing a beautiful child in this world and you are deciding not to. If you think about it, your taking away someones life.

Because they are judgmental and very closed minded to anything other than what they believe.
