Quite a long time ago, this was a philosophical position taken very seriously, and much was written about it. It has almost been forgotten today.
We know so much more about sub-atomic structure and cosmology today that this view of reality, taken literally, no longer seems to make sense.
It is still a good analogy, though, and certainly provides a powerful mental construct as a starting point for asking deeper metaphysical questions. (Practically everything we think we "know" is just a mental construct, anyhow. Think about it! ;) )

people used to believe that the structure of the atom was similar to the structure of the universe, that is until they discovered the atom was more complex than they thought, but then again the universe is also complex, so it could be the same either way.
In my opinion, if you go smaller than a quantum you get the cosmic, and vice versa.

When we were kids my siblings and I used to play "what if" games and this was one of them. I think it was my sister who proposed that we were all cells in the body of God. We played around with the items, real or imagined, and tried to see a correlation to things we already knew about. I think this is where I came to understand the idea of Earth as "Gia", an entity, and we are like the many smaller symbionts that infest our own small bodies. And it goes on from there. SO I don't think your idea is crazy at all.

good thought. I think it's a good theory but for me it'd be minus the God part. The only thing i see wrong other than that is that electrons don't follow set paths around the nucleus like the planets do.

The truth is, no matter what anyone says they believe, it is only that. A belief. We can all speculate, but I think the universe is to each of us whatever we deem it to be. After all, the only thing that really means anything in this life is our happiness. The rest is just details.

I have thought along similar lines...minus the God factor.
I think if you were to compare the human DNA to creationist theories...you might be onto something.
There is a term for this line of thinking...it escapes me at the moment...but it refers to the concept of larger objects consisting of mirror image smaller particles...kind of like a Quartz Crystal...can anyone else add to this thread?

It's not that crazy. I don't think that a solar system could be an atom though. I don't think the scaling would be right. I think that one universe could be an atom in another universe. I think Carl Sagan said something like that in Cosmos...

we are an ecological test by way of the unique people in a planet a procedures away. they had to work out, empirically, the path of their own evolution, so they stumbled on Earth, and set 'existence' in action the way they concept it got here approximately. now they are watching us, for scientific applications.we are purely tiny variations of them. they are vast vast human beings you comprehend.

Good theory!!! Taking into consideration that they say God created us, if "we" (as a whole) are a part of God, that means that by his "birth" we were created, and thus your theory might stand... I think...

I have kind of thought about it the opposite way. What if electron were really "planets" with life inside them?
