I recently went to a wedding reception and wore a nice dress just above the knee. My mother walked in on me as I was undressing and almost flipped because she noticed I had worn just pantyhose (no panties or slip) under my dress!!! She told me the dress is too short to be worn with just pantyhose. It hurt my feelings. I think pantyhose are made to be worn without (they have a cotton panel)
but otherwise all sheer. No one would have known if she hadn't walked in on me. I just turned 20.

That is pretty ridiculous. What does the length of the dress matter?

I'm not saying that your feelings shouldn't be hurt but moms will definately be moms. They see something wrong, they go off. Thats the way my mother is too. Even though you're 20 it doesn't matter because even when you're 30 she'll still probably be on your case about dumb stuff also. Now about the whole issue, MOST people do wear pantyhose with panties so i see yur moms point of view and how shocked she is. But if you don't see anything wrong with it don't let this be something to change what you think. It's your choice you're a grown *** woman for heavens sake and a simple decision like this one should not be worth arguing over. O yea, and soon enough your mom will totally get over this and you will to.

Pantyhose (esp those with cotton crotch) are made to be worn without panties. A slip is typically needed when the dress is see-through, but otherwise not really necessary and not widely worn nowadays.

If the dress length was the issue, perhaps your mother was just concerned about your modesty. Panties would cover your genital area and butt crack (unless you wear a thong) whereas panty hose don't do a lot to hide those things should the dress move and expose you.

I think your right. I don't wear panties under pantyhose because it is too bulky. Also, I never wear a slip unless the dress is a little see through. Besides, why does it really matter? It must not make much of a difference appearance wise or your mom would have noticed before she walked in on you changing.

I know women only sorry but I think you are right. Your mother is over reacting. Wearing panties with pantyhose is over doing it a bit. Just let your mom be. Let her win this one. You are 20 and you can dress as you want. I would not let it become a big deal. Next time if you are dressing lock your door to your bedroom to dress in private. Wear panties or not it is up to you. good Luck

Pantyhose are like panties that are just pant-length and dressy for certain occasions. She made a big deal out of something that ALL women do. I would understand why she'd be upset if you were wearing a skirt that only went half-way down your butt, but it was above your knee! Actually, a skirt any length (accept the half-way down the butt one) would be okay with pantyhose. Like I said before, she made a big deal out of it. Just let it go, and wear what you want.

Sometimes, women are a little old fashioned and believe that underwear should be worn under a dress. My mom used to make me wear shorts under my dresses and skirts when I went to school so the nasty boys couldn't look under my dress and see things they should not see. Even though pantyhose can be worn without underwear, since there is built in underwear in them (hence the name pantyhose), your mother is just looking out for you just as mine was looking out for me. Consider it all love, take her reaction with a grain of salt and be happy your mother loves you.

I have a 23 year old daughter, so I know where your mom is coming from. We as parents always want our kids to dress in clean clothes and you should always wear panties with hose. It's just a good hygiene practice. Also what if you were in a wreck and they had to remove your dress to save your life? Think about it. she is only looking out for you. If you would rather your mom not know what you are wearing under your dresses, get dressed before you arrive at an event or lock the door.

I think pantyhose are out. I do not wear them with a dress because they are uncomfortable and the bare leg looks better anyway. I agree with your mom. I have seen girls wearing skirts around the length you mentioned obliviously revealing their panties. Imagine if they were only wearing panty hose!

I dont think It's wrong of you to wear just pantyhose. It would be bad If you weren't wearing anything under your dress. I think your mom is just trying to look out for you.

Well, in my opinion what happened is nothing for your mom to be upset about.. Maybe she just doesn't like wearing pantyhose without panties. I feel, "to each their own." You ARE her daughter regardless and it's something very petty to disagree over.. You are twenty and she invaded your privacy by walking in. Maybe your mom is very strict due to culture.. but either way, she should let it go and forget about it. It's not that serious! Girl, don't even stress it.
