Americans hate anyone that doesn't ask "How high?" (and on their way up) when we yell at them to jump. Anyone that doesn't kiss Bush's butt enrages Republicans. It's those two factors that causes his unpopularity in the US.

You're right. So he called the president "the devil". Sticks and stones may etc etc... what is the big deal? Behind closed doors I'm sure Bush and his neocons have called Chavez names also. It's all a game, a rather puerile game but a game nonetheless. And if he chooses to give oil to the poor at discounted prices, so be it. He certainly has enough of it. And if he wishes to run his country as he does, so what. Every country has its leaders. All of them do not follow the footsteps of those who came before them, nor do they follow the footsteps of people like George Bush.

He has done some things that I personally find reprehensible, such as curtailing civil liberties and usurping power. However, he has a right to align himself with who he wants to and I like his response to helping the poor in his own country and elsewhere. We shouldn't be too angry at another country or leader for trying to form an independent and alternative bloc in this hemisphere.

He wants nothing good for the United States, he is an ignorant man who makes childish comments about President Bush. You can't respect a leader of a country who acts like a Crazy out of control college student.

Chavez has threatened to kill Americans, and has called President Bush the devil. Chavez was also guilty of rigging the election that brought him to power, and the traitor Jimmy Carter approved of the election even though he said he personally saw violations of proper proceedures because Carter was afraid that Chavez would start murdering his opponants if the results Chavez wanted were not certified.
And you have been bribed with cheap oil so you choose to ignore murder...

Hate him? He's much too unimportant to be worthy of eliciting any strong emotion from me, besides disgust, of course.
It's not that he's a stupid little man from a stupid little country that cannot stop spouting stupidity that bothers us. It's that eventually, we're going to have to clean up the messes he's making and planning to make.
He is supporting terrorist marxist rebels to undermine his neighbors governments. He is destroying his country by stealing all major private business. He is turning his country into a larger version of Castro's concentration camp. Again, all stuff we'll have to eventually clean up.
We don't mind what he does to Venezuelans, as they were brain-dead enough to elect a marxist thug. I just hope they suffer for a long, long time. 30 years of poverty, misery and oppression should do it. Enjoy!

Has to do with his hate for our country, and the fact that he has allied himself with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

You mean other than nationalizing (ie. stealing) American-owned companies? How about doing everything in his power to destabilize the governments in neighboring nations? Befriending Ahmedinajad?
The man views himself as the second coming of Fidel Castro. Pat Robertson was right about how we should deal with him.
