The "mind" (or human consciousness) and its final destination can never be determined from a living perpective. What we actually understand about such topics would barely cover the head of a pin. Yet...so many assumptions and even from those who consider themselves to be well-educated. One could reverse this question and ask as well, "Where WAS our mind before we were born?" Hmmm.

Hi! Well I've been studying the 'Near Death Experience' for a number of years now. It seems according to NDEers that once the physical brain shuts down, people will experience a sense of peace and euphoria, feel like they are being drawn down a long dark tunnel into a light, and recall their entire life in a very meaningful way to the experiencer. After resusitated, often people who tell of their NDE are scoffed at or dismissed as crazy, yet more recently, doctors in psychiatry and medicine are beginning to take this phenomonon more seriously. The verdict is still out on weather this is where the 'mind' goes, or is it a case of the brain being flooded with endoraphins as death approaches.

If you are saying "Mind" then I assume you are after a metaphysical/spiritual answer (as opposed to saying "brain", or "body")
SO.... my Short Answer is: the mind goes to God

My longer metaphysical answer is: Energy can neither be created nor destroyed. It can only change states (E=MC2)
The difference between the human body when it is alive and a few seconds after death is very small... one has a 'life energy' the other is absent of it. Both have all the necessary cells and chemicals to live..it's just one of them is no longer ALIVE.
So...where does the life force or the part that makes you live GO? since it can't be destroyed..it has to change state

That forms the basis of the religious belief that the 'soul' or 'mind' leaves the body, it doesn't just cease to exist..because that would "appear" to violate physical law.

That's how I like to think of it.. our minds can't cease to exist because that is part of the life force..therefore it just changes states and is liberated from the body.

My PERSONAL belief, being Catholic, is that our souls/minds go to GOD, but when pressed for a logical explanation.. I like to make the analogy of energy=soul.

The human Mind doesn't go anywhere. The bible says that when a person dies, a person is in a state of "sleep". THe bible supports these with various accounts in the bible.

'Go'? Why do assume it 'goes' anywhere? Awareness is due to electrical processes in the brain. When the brain dies, the processes cease, and the mind stops thinking. Awareness stops.
The end. Finito. I know we would all love to think and believe that the mind and awareness goes on, but there is no evidence of that and wishing wont make it so.

Some say on a journey through your past... like in a tunnel, viewing the greater moments of your life... supposedly when you get to the end of this tunnel, there is a light filled with love and you will see family & friends long since passed to help you into the light ! Hope this helps, have a plesant journey when your time comes !

I often wonder this question myself. It must die with the body... That being said, if you believe in the soul, can a soul or spirit think? Is there an afterlife, or do we just die and become part of the earth. It scares me to be honest. I love my life and I can't imagine no longer existing. and I can't imagine losing loved ones to nothingness.

Persumably it rots with the rest of us. Yet seeing that the mind is naught but a complex structure of molecules one could therefore say (to be nice) that we in essence live on for ever. OUr mind, our body, nourishing other living organisms. So..... everyone is immortal really

it dies with him/her. unless u mean the soul which no one knows.
except for the fact that once dead one weighs 21grams less-by deduction that is the soul.
but the mind (brain) dies.
