My husband and I are already trying out baby names, even though we are just a few weeks along and don't know the gender. We really like nature names.

He is calling the baby Penelope (!). If we have twin girls (they do run in my family!) he half jokingly wants to call them Penelope and Clementine. He also likes Cotton for a boy, even though the chances of the two of us producing a fair-headed child is nil.

Some serious choices are Creek ______, Malcolm Ash, and _____ Cotton for boys and Wren Alexandra, Meadow Leigh, and Hazel Olivia (after a grandmother) for girls.

What do you think? Or do you have some good nature names for us to consider. Nature names seem particularly hard for boys . . .

Congratulations on the new baby,

I found this site that has nature names and also includes an explanation behind each of the names. Here are some of the names they recommend and below the names I'll attach the link to the website. Once again, congrats.

Boys' nature names:
Aaron, Cyrus, Delmar, Douglas, Dylan, Kelvin, Kingsley, Lawrence, Lennox, Montague, Neil, Samson, Travis, Trent, Cliff, Flint, Lee, Dale, Forrest, River

p.s although most of these are not the obvious rock, lake, tree, names; they are still very much nature in their meaning. For example:

Aaron is a Hebrew name, meaning "mountain."

Kelvin is, apart from being a scale of temperature, a Scottish name that refers to a "small stream."

Lennox is a Scottish nature name referring to an area "where elm trees grow."

You've got a lot of good answers so far but here are a few names that have not been mentioned:
Lea (pronounced Lee)
Fern (my neices name - quite old fashioned but adorable)
Grover (I know its a Muppet but its also the name of a US President and I think its adorable)
Glen or Glenn
Holly (my name)
Sage
Rose
Rosemary
Birch (a friend of mine from college had this name and he was SO cool!)
Love the nature name idea/theme! Good job...love Hazel! I would reconsider Creek, just my opinion. Would you consider Meadow Lea or Lee instead of Leigh? Just a suggestion...congats

Just a little advice - don't go with Penelope. Most people don't know this, but it's a traditional prostitute name in Spanish because pene means... well, i'm sure you can imagine.

As for a nature name, my friend's little sister is named September Rain. It's a bit strange but most people think it's cute

Hmmm, I think the names River, Ocean, Lake, Butterfly, or Rainbow would be neat. Rather hippy-ish but I don't think I like the name Cotton though.
