At the heart of the question is the age old debate on the legislation of morality. I'm going to take the path I suspect will be less traveled and argue that we can (and in some cases should) have civil punishment for people who step outside socially beneficial norms.

Case in point... I live in Oregon. When I was a kid we didn't have a seat belt law. Somewhere along the line someone thought it would be good for society (public health care cost. I forget the actual numbers in a poll I heard last election cycle but the vast majority of people in my state now use safety belts (most without thinking). While this is a most benign example it demonstrates who society can use the law to dictate private behavior in it's interest and pursue those who fail to comply with fines, fees, etc. You can legislate aspects of morallity.

I personally find a straying spouse as one of the lowest life forms known to man. There's a time and place for everything, it's called college. Get it out of your system there. After college you have to grow up and contribute to the world. Coveting your neighbors wife may be fun for a while but it will end your marriage, cost you your house and you'll wind up with your kids calling another man daddy. The ills your preventable divorce will present society are far greater than my failure to wear a seat belt. Your profound selfishness is deserving (at the very least) of a public citation.

Yes, especially if children are involved. This should be an international rule. We lie to each other way to often a promise is a promise if you can't stay faithful. You should not get married. Too many children are torn through divorce, this leads to issues and an unstable life in the long run. Divorce can be very detrimental to a child's proper up bringing and future relationships with a partner in the end. Parents are supposed to be an example to their children. This also reflects on how we conduct ourselves as a society. We were all children at one stage and we all looked up to our elders for guidance. Most step parents really could not care for the child that is not his/hers therefore not providing the love and support that a biological parent can give. Understand? Think about it!!!!

If you mean punished by law, no. I think it is human nature to cheat, some of us just choose to not act on natural, human instincts. Men crave variety in sex and women. I'm sure many women do as well, so it is natural. It would be hard to punish it by law especially when you look at 60 % of people in marriage say they have cheated. That would create a huge mess with the overcrowding we already have in prisons.

No, Because it is your decision. If u wanna cheat on your spouse then cheat, there is noone stopping you. Punishing you for this is like punishing someone for playing football or something like that

Punished how? Legally? You cannot legislate human interactions. Just because something is morally wrong, does not mean arresting someone is needed. People have the legal right to do whatever they want with their own bodies, even if they don't morally have that right in some cases. To endorse anything else is to endorse majoriarianism at best and fascism at worst.

Heck no. If your spouse cheats on you, then YOU punish him/her. Pee on his/her toothbrush, wipe your butt with his/her socks, pee in his/her Mountain Dew bottle, drain his/her bank account, post his/her picture on the internet, take pieces of poop and wrap them up like hershey's kisses, tell his/her mother, tell his/her co-workers, and then move on to someone who will appreciate you and be a dedicated spouse.

I think that's more a moral issue than a legal issue. But I do believe what goes around comes around. I didn't used to, but I've seen it happen too many times now not to believe it anymore.
