I'm really interested in buying a bass guitar, but I have absolutely NO IDEA what kind to get! what are some brands that i should consider and what kind of guitar should i get?

Get a standup bass. If you insist on electric, get a Fender Precision frettless.

If you know someone who is experienced, a good used bass is the best. You get more for your money. But only do this if someone who knows what to look for helps you choose!
For a new bass, it's hard to go wrong with a Fender Squier.

I just started guitar about a week ago.I have a Fender Squire Bullet.It's not a bass though,but still a great starter.

an Ibenez or an Epiphone and have someone who has been playing guitar help you pick it out
i would get an acoustic electric first so you can get better at electric when you try it
