I've heard that birth control pills are good, but I've also heard that I would have to get a paps mear done to get them from a doctor or clinic. The last time I had one of those done was a bad experience for me, and I don't think I'm ready to go through it again. I'm going to be getting married later this year, and I was just wondering, are there any kinds of birth control that a person can use that are just as effective as the pills? Condoms are cheap and easy to use, but they can break, and I'd rather have something more reliable. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you in advance for your answers.

They have shots that you can get now that are supposed to be very effective.I am sorry that you had a bad experience but almost anything other then condoms you are going to have to get a physical examination done.My suggestion is that you have your fiance go with you and stay in the room.Good luck.

Bad experience or not, you need to have an annual pap exam. Any prescription birth control method will not be written by a competent doctor without one. You are going to be sexually active a great deal in marriage, so you really need to have it done. Find an ob/gyn that is sensitive to your feelings. Tell them you are nervous about the exam. You should be able to find one that will talk you through it and be gentle.
You might want to ask about Nuvaring. It is a relatively new contraceptive that involves using a form of progestin and is inserted vaginally. You wear it for three weeks at a time. It is flexible and will fit to your form. You can visit their website www.nuvaring.com. It is an interesting site that also covers the gynecological exam.
Congragulations on your upcoming marriage. I wish you many years of health and happiness. Make sure you do all you can to make that wish come true, including taking care of your feminine health!

The greatest form of birth control is abstinence. It is 100% effect and never fails. There is no form of birth control, other then the obvious, that is 100% effective. No pills or rings or condoms or anything.

You should be getting a pap smear done at least every other year in order to catch any health issues with your reproductive organs.

I would not recommend the Depo Shot (taken every three months). You would need a bone density check after five years as it seriously screws with your bone health. Not to mention the moodiness, weight gain, and spotting at weird times. (I was on it for about four years and am so glad I am off of it. I am on Kariva now).

Here is a review of some contraceptives:

The pill is the best one that I know of. You will need to find a gyno that you really like and trust because it is very important to get your annual paps for all sorts of reasons. You may be more comfortable with a woman doctor. But a pap is the only way to detect certain problems that may lead to cancer if left undetected so please see a doctor.
