4adults went on vacation we rented a cabin on the net we said 4 adults when we checked in all 4 of us went in to get the keys. when we get in the cabin it smelled like someone had smoked the place up with the fireplace i mean everything smelled like fire smoke. we went to go to bed that night pulled out the sofa bed and it littraly fell through had to sleep on the floor. we complained were told to fill out a green card so we did and mailed it in. we finnally got a letter back stating that the sofa is meant for kids that we lied about how many adults we had and that if we didnt like the smell of smoke they recomend next time we get one with gas fireplace and gave us a 30.00 gift cert to come back. we called and she confirmed that we didnt lie about 4 adults it was on our check in paper and said that there was nothing else to do. i think i am going to write to all the newspapers i can and tell what a crappy place this is. what do you think? we spent $450. to stay there.

and just so im clear on the smoke smell its because the chimney isnt high enough to let the smoke out thats what the maintnece man told us.. and i grew up with a fireplace this wasnt that kind of smell it was like caught on fire smell.. i just dont feel like the lousy $15.00 for each couple is enough for the lousy weekend we went through

im srry it was 450 for 3 nights and we did call and complain and was told that there was nothing else available we tried to call around for a hotel close but there was none it was gatlenburg tn. and they had some kind of a festivle that weekend. so we were pretty much stuck there.

You got shafted... See if they are members of Better Business Bureau, and report them, go ahead and write to the newspapers, and word of mouth is an excellent resource...

First of all I would have complained right away. They might have moved you to a different cabin. If it was early enough I would have found another hotel or something. $450 for one night? Sounds kind of steep so I hope you didn't stay for two. Personally I would have stopped payment on my credit card until the business had to make an effort to call ME and make a deal to take half off or whatever. $30 is an insult. Next time the heck with filling out the card. Insist on getting a higher up manager to look at the room.
Careful about the newspaper thing. They could clean up the room and sue YOU for loss of business. Definitly call the Better Business Bureau. If it is part of a chain or big enough (not a Mom and Pop thing) keep calling until someone give you satisfaction to make you go away.
Oh yea... on the Yahoo map links you can leave comments for businesses. I find it helpful to look at them and your comment will stay forever.

I don't think you can write to the papers but check on yahoo.travel or others like travelocity and there's a place to write comments about places you've stayed.
Look up the name of the cabin owners on-line and see if they come up in a travel/hotel search and write your feedback there.

That's messed up how they did you. I think you are doing the right thing. You should get the word out about what kind of establishment this is and warn others before they go there.

I think you had every right to complain, i know i sure would have, and yes do what you can to let others know how crappy this place was, what a wast of money.
