The legal drinking age for a country means that it is legal to drink at that age for anyone, including visitors. If the legal age is 16 there, then that would apply to you as well. When in Rome.......

Yes, I went to Mexico last year, where the drinking age is 18. It was righ after rgaduation, and all of the new graduates on senior trips were getting wasted, legally. I assume it is the same in France. Frankly, the 18 year olds couldn't hold their acohol, and I doubt a 16 year old will be any better, so I wouldn't recommend it.

Yes, if you take a trip to France when you're 16, they won't ask what is legal in your home country, because it doesn't matter. They'll serve you drinks legally. The only person that can tell you no at that point is your parents, guardian or chaperone.

Yes. Simply exercise judgment. Drinking in France is a cultural habit, and it's more about making friends than getting drunk. You'll meet as many frowns there as any other place in the world if you lose control of yourself.

You shouldn't be drinking at 16, you'll end up with some stinky Frenchman on top of you in an alley.

yes indeed. Some schools have parents sign permission slips saying that it's okay for you to drink. Have fun if you're going.
