I think that these stereotypes might have something to do with the Victorian era. Like most stereotypes they are not particularly accurate. See the link for details.

It's like saying French are all stuck up and hate everyone. It's not true. It's just the precieved attitude of British people.

As for the don't have sex, well haha that's just wrong. Look at King Henry VIII who is notorious for his sexual escapades and the creation of the Church of England because of those escapades. He created it to set aside (divorce) Katherine of Aragon since the pope wouldn't give him a dispensation for divorce.

The puritans, who first settled in America were very prudish about sex and sexual attitudes, so they acted very shy and they were very very inhibited. Puritans fled from England because of persecution.

It might also be in part because British are perceived as proper, and to be proper one must have the appearance of being inhibited.

Hopefully that helps.

That is simply an untruth. Europeans have known and understood for centuries that when it comes to sex and sexual behavior that the British are quite unihibited and considered to be somewhat kinky.

Have you ever been in Britain??? The latest trend in sexual behavior in Britain is annoymous sex in parking lots on the Highways. It is a real big deal there.

Those two particular stereotypes seem to be based on the Royal family - and therefore not indicative of English people at all, just a handful of the bluebloods.

The only stereotype I've ever heard is that they don't practice very good dental hygiene. People with rotten teeth usually don't get laid much and they probably aren't very outgoing either. Maybe that explains things.

my bf is from England, and at first, yes he was very shy, and we didn't have sex very often. and now, well, it he is still shy and we have sex a little more often. its been 2 years almost.. so I think in a sense this is true. maybe has something to do withtheir upbringing. morals, and such.

other stereotypes are that they are arrogant and too open about sex. i guess these stereotypes kind of cancel each other out.

The people who believe that are mistaken and have obviously failed to read their "Young Lady Chattlerly."
