I think that societal expectations play into speech patterns more than personality traits. Physical traits also play into speech patterns and also influence personality. I think you have the causality reversed; a physical condition might predispose someone to act in a certain way, and the same physical condition might also affect their speech patterns.
For example, someone with allergies and nasal problems might not be able to do many physical things, and so might become more focused on books and computers, i.e. a "nerd". I can't help you on "gay" speech patterns; I think that this may be a societal stereotype that has worked it's way back into the society.

You're assuming that all nerd's are the same. It's like saying all nutters are the same! This is simply not true. So the personality of one nerd living in America for example may be completely different to the personality of another nerd living in Australia. Also, some nerds do not have an unusual voice.
I knew this guy once who was into weight lifting, boxing, football - all the things nerds aren't into. However he was still a nerd in computers - he seemingly knew everything about them. And yet to see him in the street or to hear him talking you never would have guessed! It was funny.

What is a nerd? Is it a person who is a computer freak?
Enlarged adenoids can affect your speech as it sounds as if you have a peg on your nose. Go and see the ear, nose and throat specialist and get it sorted out.

Maybe it's the other way around. E.g., a guy with a nasal voice grows up nerdy.

You're right on this one. Nerds who lack confidence talk like they lack confidence, it's also true of guys who love themselves and think they're jack the lad- they have a really brash annoying tone to their voices, talk to loudly.
I suppose it reflects on your personality and it comes out in the way you walk and talk, dress and act.

I'm both gay and nerdy and my voice is rather typical. In fact, I'm a folk singer, so it can't possibly be that weird. Lol
