The Japanese say a person has 3 faces:

The first for the public.

The second for the family.

The third for themselves.

We protect ourselves by hiding who we truly are, the more we can trust a person the more we can stop hiding and reveal the true self.

Yes, that IS something, isn't it? Sometimes we don't even notice- (someone else has to point it out) how differently we can act in the company of certain people. I guess we ALL have to do that at one time or another. I find that I don't have to anymore, (at my age, it don't matter!), but you DO have to "be on your best behavior" sometimes. Just as long as you are not phoney or compromising your principals for anybody.

Everyday we put on a mask. We behave as society expects us to behave. Some of us rebel and behave in accordance to what we assume is against society. In doing so, we just create another fraction of that same society we're attempting to rebel against. I make no attempt to hide who I am, I revel in the impact each indivual stamps on our shared experience as humans. I'm fascinated about masks. Always have been. They show a face we either don't have the courage to make as part of our everyday repetoir or they give us the courage to do things and say things we normally wouldn't. So, to honor our communal heritage and to add another layer of my own, I create masks.

No I don't feel like that. I would say you have insecure issues. You are normal feeling like that. Find out who you are and you will be ok. I'am different and life is GREAT> Live every day to the fullest!

I think it's human nature to mimic those you are around. In my last job my boss was very cockney and I found my accent changed to slightly mimic his. When I answer the phone at work and deal with credit controllers I notice my voice seems to sound posher. I think this is our way of trying to fit in with those we are in company with, if we sound and act like them then we are more likely to be accepted by them

People do this as they want to fit in.They want to be accepted so they try to be like the people theyre with.

you shopuld just be yourself though.but i guess if we all really think about it weve all done this at some point. Pretended to be someone were not.

If it's too different, they are called hypocrites. Try to be genuine, even when it's not politically correct. You'll be happier. Best of luck.

I know what you mean - most people put on a front in day to day live - even to friends. Probably only your family know what you are all about. People are very complex and insecure. Most people just want to be liked.

totally, at home I'm very hyper and loud, and in public, I'm very polite, quiet. But when I'm with my friends, I sometimes act like myself at home! lol
