Affirmations, or as I prefer to call them, Verbal Remedies work by engaging a process of creative visualization. The way to write and recite your own precision affirmations is to make your statements: Positive, Present, Personal and Specific. Here are some useful resources for getting your mind around your own verbal remedies: http://www.psychic-junkie.com/verbal-remedies.html

The first time I was told of positive affirmation and how to practice it, my reply was, " So I am to constantly lie to myself? " Then I tried it and was astounded by the change in my attitude. I realized that I was a product of my enviroment. My dad is a WWII vet, therefore he has many afflications. He was posioned by Agent Orange in Germany. Once I realized that I was not my father or mother and life was not a battle but a gift. I was able to apply positive affirmation in my daily routine. One personal victory was the attainment of my goals. Once upon a time I was an unskilled waitress, married to a man that kept me hostage. Today I am VP/CFO for a mid sized business and a grateful mother and wife to the greatest man on Earth. Yes, it does work.

The human mind is incredibly gullible. You can make people believe anything. Look around you for proof. So yes, to a susceptible mind, affirmations might well be convincing enough to change the viewpoint.

When I was young my mom had one of those tapes. I was like 12 when I tried it. It was supposed to build your confidence and said things like, "You hold all the cards" and some other messages that other voices said. They all talked at the same time but I usually would focus on one voice. I tried it twice, and did not feel more confident. I'm sure you're supposed to do it for about a month. Personally, I think they work only for certain people.

yes affirmations work but you need to be more positive in it , and believe it too because sometimes when you are saying affirmations , you think in yourself( oh it's impossible to happend) so here the affirmation will not work for you , so you need to believe all the affirmations you are saying and visualizing it too to make it real for you
yes affirmations work as miracles
i recomment to you to see the movie "the secret"
love 2 you

You pose an interesting question that I've wondered about myself in the past. I reached the conclusion that yes, I think that this type of "sleep assimilation" can work, no less than subliminal messaging has been proven to work, or communicating with loved ones who are in drug induced comas or psychotic catatonic states.

I hold the following convictions to be true for a few reasons, all of which were only seeds planted in my 2 Tours of Viet Nam. These beliefs were not borne of fear on the battlefield, or regret for the lives that I took in under the Shield of War, nor did they come to me as I lay shot to piece in a rice paddy sure that I was going to die before the Medic could stop the bleeding, stuff my guts back into the holes in my abdomin, and the chopper I could hear - but not see, - would take the chance to land on a hot LZ to pick up a few wounded Marines.

No far from it - they lay somewhat dormant and finally bloomed into full realization later in the jungles of Central America and along the African Gold Cost, where the only skills I had developed as an adult were marketable

First of all I believe in a Loving, forgiving and compassionate God.

Secondly, I believe in MIracles.

Third, I believe in the power of the human spirit and the power of the body to heal itself under remarkable and seemingly impossible circumstances.

Lastly I believe that we still are only begining to scratch at the surface of what there is to know about the power and workings of not only the organ called the Brain, but the incredible oganism we know as the human mind.

But do you know what works even better? Put those Affirmation qualities to WORK.- right now - today! Let's say that some of the positive qualities / goals you want to develop are leadership, how to properly reward and discipline staff under you in a business-like non-personal manner, how to set higher office production goals without having to pay over time, how to cut down on office gossip and limit breaks, and how to start a peer review process, that worked Both up and down the ladder.

You've read the books, and the seminar materials, but it seems that you're so often too busy to stop and castigate someone for the screw up that cost the team two whole lost days, much less hand out "atta-boys" because someone who just did the job they were hired and paid to do, actually did what they were hired to do - without making a mistake. Then add another problem to your list of issues to over come - time management. What to you do

Make time each day - at least 1/2 - 1 hour, ( Go in 1/2 - 1 hour earlier or stay one half - 1 hour later, or take a 1/2 hour lunch - whatever), and use that time to go around and talk to your employees, and team managers. Find out who's been doing a great job, and who has not. Look for those who consistently do above average work, and those who consistenly do below average work. Then focus on these people a little more than the rest of the herd. These are the subjects that you can use to practice and improve your affirmative qualities on / with.

Remember this" PRAISE IN PUBLIC, and criticize in private". Recognition of work well done in front of peers is a source of pride for most people and is a cheap incentive - many big companies still have "Employee's of the Month - which garner's those chosen special perks and recognition such as a spcial reserved parking space, lunch with the CEO out of the office, a Bonus Check, extra days off, a plaque mounted in the main lobby or cafeteria, - other perks, - usually including a permanent raise.

On the other hand, criticism, or a "good chewing out" should always take place behind closed doors, and preferably mano-e-mano, (yes I know the HR director should probably be standing there - but this can be very embarrasing for the employee, and having a third party there - "another suit" makes it feel like he's being ganged up on, ESPECIALLY if the HR person offers something to the exchange - because its very likely that the HR person has no Idea of what the issue is really all about - and the employee really does not care about his / her opinion. But again, this is you opportunity as the "Boss" or the "Employee" to practice your affirmative / positive qualities.

1. Stay cool, be polite, do not interrupt, BE HONEST.
2. Do not over react, do not use sarcasam.
3. Do not raise your voice, roll or close your eyes.
4. Keep eye contact, suggest that you both be seated.
5. Try to define exactly what the issue is at the start.
6. Avoid using Profane language, and do not get angry.

(All too often the warning about one single infraction can turn into a recounting of every real or imagined innappropriate action that one of you has ever commited since you were in the 1st grade)

6. However, if you feel that you have been "Blind-sided" by the accusation being made against you, or if you have run into what sounds like a prepared speech, complete with statistcial data, and just "too neatly packaged" supporting arguements, say that you are not prepared to answer the accusation, or respond to what has just been said to you, and that you disagree with some of what has been said, but do not wish to go into it at present.

Rather you need some time to think what your (for lack of a better word) "opponent" has said. (How many times have you been sucked into an arguement by someone with an agenda who who ended up making you look like a jackass, and later that night in bed, you lie awake chastising yourself and wondering "Why didn't I say this to that, and when he said that, I should have said. . . "

I have always found that when I acted as the "Teacher" for my brothers and sisters, and helped them study by asking them "Test" questions, in advance of up-comming school tests and quizes, that I wound up knowing and remembering the material much longer and better than they did.

If possible , find a confidant ay work that you can trust and confide in that person to what ever degree you are comfortable with, and ask for their help in achieving your goals. Maybe at the start the best thing they can do is to just clear their throat if they see you doing or saying something inappropriate, and work on from there as you work through you list, and build your confidence.

Again, the progress you make, and the success you achieve are up to you. Good luck!

I'm pulling for you.
