Do most English people realise that Oliver Cromwell slaughtered thousands of innocent Irish natives, using such methods as the tar cap? Which involved a leather cap filled with molten tar being attached to the peasant's head and connected by chain to a horse. The horse sent into a gallop would scalp the peasant.
Do they realise that the entire city of Cork was burned to the ground by the British at the start of the 20th Century? Irish firemen were shot at when they attempted to quell the blaze, and many civilians were shot in cold blood.
Do they realise that during the famine Britian exported vast amounts of crops grown on lands confiscated from the local Irish, while 1 million Irish died of starvation?
Do most English people know that the British traded the Irish as slaves in the Caribean?
These are questions I ask out of concern. I have many English friends who were shocked when they read about this. They said they were taught nothing about it in school, and never knew.

My English mates were actually quite pissed off that they weren't taught this. They said it made them feel ill informed, and like victims of propaganda that they laughed at in America.

No we don't learn that. English people are still under the illusion that Cromwell is a hero.

I live in America, but I cherish my Celtic heritage (Cymru). And my husband is Scottish - Wallace Clan. We understand that the Irish were/are our compatriots. We have many friends who feel the same. There are also several Celtic Bands here. Fin tan is great. Yes, I know who Fin Tan is.

i did not know this either but i doubt we would have been taught it as it is very negative isnt it?
