The tales of desperadaux is a really good book. I think it is spelled that way. It is about a mouse communntiy living in a castle. There is a mouse who doesn't really fit in. This is the main character. It is a pretty big book because it has alot of details. I reccommend it.

The Rats of NIHM is also a good book. A mouse is the main character but there are other animals to. It is only like 150 pages but it is rich in detail. It is a good book and i am not a teacher or a geek.Just to tell you.

The Ralph Mouse Collection: The Mouse and the Motorcycle, Runaway Ralph, Ralph S. Mouse by Beverly Clearly
The other main mouse book I can think of is Stuart Little
by E. B. White. Which was also made into a movie.
There also was "Town Mouse, Country Mouse" by
Jan Brett. I think there is another one but I can't remember the name.

can't believe nobody's said "The Rescuers!" the Margery Sharp series (there are maybe 4 of them.) I love those books! and they're all about mice.

Abel's Island and Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh are great too. (Mrs. Frisby is the mouse and her husband worked with the rats.) It's the book that the movie "Secret of Nimh" is based on.

edit: My brain only went to happy children's literature characters before. But, of course, a really excellent example of a book with a mouse as a main character is "Maus" (and "Maus II"), the pulitzer-prize winning graphic novel by Art Speigelman. Speigelman uses his father's experiences as a holocaust survivor as an inspiration for the story but instead of drawing human characters the Jews are Mice and the Germans are Cats. Very serious, powerful stuff.

E. B. White's "Stuart Little" has a mouse as the title character and "Charlotte's Web" has the rat Templeton.
Beverly Cleary's "The Mouse and the Motorcycle," "Ralph S. Mouse," and "Runaway Ralph."
Robert C. O'Brien's "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH"
Brian Jacques's Redwall series
Kenneth Grahame's "The Wind in the Willows" has a Water Rat
Hugh Lofting's "Doctor Dolittle's Zoo" has a multitude of short stories about different mice and rats.

Tons: The "If you give a Mouse a Cookie" books come to mind

Also, "The Tale of Despereaux" has a tiny mouse.
Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh
The Ralph books, like "Ralph and the Motorcycle"
I guess, technically, Mickey and Minnie are also mice, so any Disney books with them in it. :)

Basil of Baker Street.

I think this is the name. It's the book that the Disney movie "The Great Mouse Detective" is based off of. I'm afraid I don't know the author.
