If you believe in God and read the bible, meat eating animals are the least of the violent things he's done during creation, it seems to pale in comparison to the genocide he's condoned in the past.

Of course that's all pretty irrelevant since animals are the result of evolution and not from any preplanning of an omnipotent being. The answer then of why predation exists is that it makes the survivors healthy. Without predators, animals would crowd out their resources and often starve en mass. With predation, the weakest can be culled off and the strongest left to breed and keep the entire herd healthy. From the perspective of nature in which animals breed until there are no more resources, predation just makes sense.

Actually I've sort of lied there, I've really answered the question as to why predation isn't really a bad thing and not why it exists. It exists because for some animals it's easier to get their food by eating other animals then from eating plants.

The question is loaded; it presumes that there exist a God, and it created all animals (or all life, by extension). IMHO, God has nothing to do with it all.

I will answer a different question: "Why wild animals eat each other?" Answer: for feeding themselves. Killing for feeding, by itself, isn't good or bad; is a necessity. All life, but (maybe) plancton and bacteria, eat other living beings, and even these eat organic matter, which came from the remainders of other living beings. More at the source listed below.

God created everything with innocence and with no wrong in them. For it was in Eden when Adam and Eve were still under the watchful eyes of God that they said that there was peace and everything was all right, and showing no signs of any evil in man or animal. For when Adam and Eve sinned, everything went the wrong way. That is why things go in the wrong direction when we all no they should go another way. So in conclusion God did not create wild animals that each other, but animals that were innocent and with no wrong with them.

The reason is because if animals did not eat eachother the world would get too crowded and the animals would eventually starve to death or get sick and die.

+ Well why did God create people to hate and kill each other?
For food and so they have a chance to live just like us!

All Things Dull And Ugly
from Monty Python's Contractual Obligations Album

All things dull and ugly,
All creatures, short and squat,
All things rude and nasty,
The Lord God made the lot.

Each little snake that poisons,
Each little wasp that stings,
He made their brutish venom,
He made their horrid wings.

All things sick and cancerous,
All evil great and small,
All things foul and dangerous,
The Lord God made them all.

Each nasty little hornet,
Each beastly little squid,
Who made the spiky urchin?
Who made the sharks? He did!

All things scabbed and ulcerous,
All pox both great and small,
Putrid, foul and gangrenous,
The Lord God made them all.

Amen.

God made animals out of meat for a good reason.

so that populations would be under control and so that only the strongest would survive, ensuring the genetic makeup within species was always maintained at the highest standards. thus the weakest would get eliminated and the best genes would be passed on................

I have asked that myself but unlike most predators we dont have to eat meat to survive. We just kill and abuse animals for fun and hot dogs which is sad!
