Here is some things that can help you during the game.

A sneak is when the quarterback pretends that he is going to thow it to another player, but then he takes the ball and runs himself. If you think that something like this happens during the game, then you'll know it is a sneak.

A blitz is when the quarterback is attacked by players of the opposing team at the beginning of a play.

The main goal is for the quarterback (the player who starts with the ball) to run the ball somehow or throw it to a player and have them run to the "endzone" which is each opposite end of the field. If the ball is thrown to a player in the endzone or someone runs the ball into the endzone, it is considered a "touchdown." When a team gets a touchdown or "TD", they get 6 points added to their score. Right after a team scores a TD, they receive the opportunity to get a PAT (Point After TouchDown.) This means that the kicker of the team has to kick it into the big goal post. If he makes it, the team adds 1 more point, making it 7 points.

Another way to score points is by attempting a Field Goal. (FG) When the kicker attempts a FG to the goal post, from however far they are, and they get it in, the team adds 3 points to their score.

There is a line for every 10-yards on the field. The endzone on each side is basically 0-yards. Then, goes 10, 20, 30, and 40 into the middle of the field from each endzone. In the middle of the field is the 50-yard line.

There are different players on a team. Right now, I will name a few positions. There is the quarterback, which I have already talked about, a running back, which the QB (quarterback) can give the ball to to run it into the endzone, a wide receiver who will run into the endzone and have the QB throw it to him, and a linebacker, who's job is to block the opposing team's players from reaching the QB. The person with the ball has to stop once an opposing player knocks them down.

Another important play is an "interception." An interception is when the QB throws it thinking it will be caught by a tagetted player, but an opposing player catches it. When this happens, the ball is in the opposing team's possession. By the way, an interception's abbreviation is an INT.

After 4 "downs," the ball changes possession of team and the other team starts the ball at the 50-yard line. Also, after a TD, the ball is automatically the other team's and is kicked off by the team that just got the TD to the opposing team.

The game begins by a toss-up. Whoever wins the toss-up can choose to either receive the kickoff or kick off.

There are 4 quarters in the whole game. Each quarter on the clock is 15-minutes. (NOTE: The game is NOT 1 hour long. With all of the stops on the clock, all of the breaks, the half-time show, and timeouts, the whole game reaches approximately 4 hours.

Another important fact you need to know is a "fumble." A fumble is when the QB throws the ball to a teammate, but the teammate touches the ball but the ball falls out of his hands. The ball is anyone's ball and so anyone can retrieve it. Whoever retrieves it, the ball is in their team's possession. Also, if the QB throws the ball to a teammate, but the teammate doesn't catch it and also doesn't even touch the ball, it counts as incomplete and is counted as a down.

The Super Bowl's two teams are not decided yet, but at the end of tomorrow, the two teams will be decided. The two teams could be either the Indianapolis Colts or the New England Patriots from the AFC (a half of the NFL) and either the New Orleans Saints or the Chicago Bears could reach the Super Bowl from the NFC half. If it is Colts vs Bears, I'd say that the Colts are the better team. Colts vs Saints, I think that the Saints are the favorite, but the Colts would probably win. If it is the Patriots vs the Saints, I'd say Patriots and same for Patriots vs Bears.

Good luck!

P.S. If the Patriots make the Super Bowl, say a few things about Tom Brady, their excellent quarterback and Corey Dillon, their other excellent player. He is a running back.

If the Colts make it, talk about ONE player a lot of the time. Their quarterback Peyton Manning, the best QB in the NFL currently.

Note that the Chicago Bears have great defense and get excited when you see Brian Urlacher, their best player (a middle line backer) making a good play.

The Saints have an excellent player named Reggie Bush. You should note and say a few good things about how great he is.

Football is tough to learn for beginners. The best offensive player is LT from the San Diego Chargers. The best defensive player is arguably Jason Taylor of the Miami Dolphins. The Pittsburgh Steelers were the best team last year. But this year we won't know till February. It's down to 4 teams. The New Orleans Saints vs Chicago Bears in the NFC. The New England Patriots vs the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC. The playoffs started with 6 teams in each conference. Whichever 2 win the 2 games will go to the championship called the Super Bowl. Super Bowl 41 to be exact. The winner of the Super Bowl will be the new champion. Each conference is made up of 16 teams.Every fan has their own favorite team. I like the Redskins, but this year they have stunk. Just be yourself when it comes to football. Don't try to act like you know more then you do. That will make you look foolish. Whatever team scores the most points wins. That can come by touchdowns, extra points, field goals and safetys. Touchdowns are 6 points. They can come by any number of means. Extra points are one added point to a touch down kicked by a kicker. A field goal is a kick by a kicker. A safety is when a player an offensive player is tackled in the end zone. You have offensive, defensive and special teams players. My advice for you would be to find a friend or relative that is patient that can teach you. The worst thing for you would be if someone is impatient. Find someone who will be patient. Lastly, football can not be a one time thing. Find a team to follow. Whatever you like. Usually people follow a local team. Or maybe a player. The worst fan is a "Band Wagon" fan. That's someone who follows a team only when they are winning. Stick by a team. I follow the Redskins win lose or tie.

wow a real question that is not based on opinion. Well first of all you need to root for the team that the guy likes....then Talk about the quarterbacks...Best QB is of course peyton Mannnig (p.s. He is goin' to the Super Bowl) Yeah and his recievers on the team are Marivin Harrison that is the Best. Great QB's in the NFL is Brett Farve (he may be going into retirement??) Carson Palmer of the Cinnicinati Bengals.and Drew Brees of he New Orleans Saints....um yeah if his favorite team is the Bears then Rex Grossman otherwise no....Jeff Garcia got put into the game after Donovan McNabb got a knee injury in the middle of the game.Best kicker for field goals is Adam Vinateri of the Indianapolis Colts...Best Rookie running back is Reggie Bush..with the Saints...and Defensive Rookie of the Year is DeMeco Ryans with the Houston Texans...Best all-time touchdown record Belongs to LT (LaDamion Tomlinson of the San Diego Chargers) and Most sacks (bringing down of the QB) is Shawne Merriman with the Chargers..Tom Brady with the New England Patriots has won 3 Super Bowl rings...Joseph Addai is also a very good rookie running back for the Colts...and that its gonna be a Saints and Colts Super Bowl...And the trophy awarded at the super bowl to the champions is called The Lambardi Trophy....the point is to say whatever you think and i'm sure he'll be happy to explain to you what you don't know...If you say one smart thing and he replys with something that is related that you don't know about just makes things worse...So go with what you know and just tell him what you think and ask if you don't know what he's talking about...This "business man" won't want to do business with you if you tell him you know about football when you really don't....Good luck and the Colts are gonna win this Super Bowl....~GoColts~ ~Manning takes all this year~

To further go on with what JC said:
If the Colts go than say something like "Do you think Peyton Manning will finally go all the way?"

If the Saints go you can talk about the #2 pick in the draft Reggie Bush. Say stuff like "do you think he will be the next great running back?"

If the referee calls a penalty and the play is stopped 95% of the time its a false start. If your able to call this before the ref states it your sure to fit right in.
Holding is another big one.

Touchdown-6 points + 1 extra point for the kick after
Field goal-3 points
safety-2 points

hope this helps. (this covers about .00001% of the game)

Lol, funny question.

OK, ummm....there are currently 4 teams vying for the 2 Super Bowl spots. Know these player's names:

Saints: Drew Brees (QB)
Colts: Peyton Manning (QB)
Bears: Rex Grossman (QB)
Patriots: Tom Brady (QB)

Obviously, forget about the 2 teams that end up not making it.

If the Bears are in the Super Bowl, marvel over their great defense.

Do NOT say how cute you think Tom Brady is. Say he is an accurate passer who makes great decisions.

It'll be easier to help you once the 2 teams are decided.

Go to NFL.com. Look around for 5 minutes and you should have a better idea of the football 'scene'.

I have a suggestion for a book for you to read: "Get Your Own Damn Beer I'm Watching the Game". I really enjoyed it and I knew a lot about football but knew even more after reading that.

Yell "That was a cheap shot!" every 4 or 5 plays. Cheer when they cheer, and give plenty of high fives and head butts. You're in!
