First of all, learn how to spell 'elite'. Then it really jut depends on how old you are, what level you are now, and how much you really love the sport. Give me your answers and I'll give you mine.

just keep doing what you like doing, if gymnastics makes you happy keep doing it without worrying about becoming an elite gymnast and you will do fine, but if you find you dont like that arena or gymnastics isnt what you like to do anymore then you can quit... nothing in life is a waste of time if you enjoy it... they only thing you want to make sure of is that you get your education because being able to do gymnastics will end one day but knowledge wont... good luck!

It's your choice, but I think you should become an elite gymnast. I used to be a gymnast, but I had to quit because of a back problem.

Gymnastics is an exercise, not a sport.

Aside from that, the long term body damage isn't worth it. If you get into high-level competition, expect to be abused and your weight controlled. Any change in weight - including normal body changes like water retention - are considered "undesireable" and are punished. Read on:

You can be a "champion" in a non-sport and be famous for five minutes, or you can live a normal and anonymous life and be healthy for 70 years doing real sports like running or swimming. It's your choice.

Yes! I say go for it. Don't let anyone bring you down like that. It's your opinion on this. Not anyone else's. I don't think it's a waste of our time at all. Gymnastics is fun.

a person's dream(no matter what it is) is never a waste of time. Discard those people who say it is, you don't need downers like that in your life, they are only jealous they have nothing to aspire to, and probaly unhappy because they wanted to do something and didn't, they wasted their life by listening to downers and not going along with their aspirations.
