Why is Windows task manager popping up on its own?

This is the second time this has happened and it's really annoying! Task manager pops up at random. Under processes is a long list of 'taskmgr.exe'. The computer freezes up, and I can't close task manager or anything else I have open. The start menu and the keyboard do not work, so I end up turning my computer off with the power button. When I start it back up it's fine. It's a Gateway tablet with XP, a little over a year old.

The keyboard's not stuck.
