Hasn't yet, but it's merely coincidental. The site of the game is determined a few years in advance, and there's no telling how a team will fare in that time. As previous posters have noted, Super Bowl XIX was the closest, with the San Francisco 49ers taking on the Dolphins at Stanford Stadium in Palo Alto, while the Los Angeles Rams played Super Bowl XIV at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.

The NFL does not choose a Super Bowl site based upon that home team not being a contender. As a matter of fact, Super Bowl sites are, at the moment, already determined through 2010.

The only things they really consider are weather conditions, money and security. Mostly money.

That being said, no team has ever played on their home field in the Super Bowl.

you know they would change the location if dallas makes it to the super bowl. In the NFL Playoff and Super Bowl rule book it clearly states that an NFL team may not play in its own stadium and the location of the Super Bowl may be changed in order to prevent any home field advantages. So if Dallas makes it the location would be moved to the next best location.

It has never happened but it could. The site of the Super Bowl is picked 2 to 3 years in advance so feasibly a teams home stadium could be the SB site and the team could make it to the SB themselves.

No because the NFL has purposely chose a neutral spot of a team that couldn't make the playoffs as the Super Bowl stadium. This is so no team in the playoffs would receive home-field advantage. I think that the Saints will be the crowd favorites if they make it, since New Orleans is the closest, out of Chicago, NE, and Indianapolis.

No they haven't. The Rams played Pittsburgh in Super Bowl XIV in the Rose Bowl, while the Niners played Super Bowl XIX vs. Miami in Palo Alto.

And who was the idiot that thought the Super Bowl was in New Orleans this year?

I think The closest one was when the 84 niners played the Dolphins with Dan marino in Palo Alto ,CA(Stanford Stadium) the trip from San Fransico was a short one about 25 miles so you can say the niners had a huge crowd advantage it was Superbowl XIX.

I don't think it has ever happened before. I do know that the site of Super Bowl is picked way in advance, so it is possible that it will happen some day.

As far as I know it hasn't but even if it did the home team wouldn't have an advantage as the tickets are split between the 2 teams.
